Thanks so much for all the replies. He still doesn't sleep any longer but he has reduced his training sessions to 3 instead of 5 nights a week. Has trouble getting up some days. I can't wait until the dark mornings start..should be fun..not. Mary xx

The martial arts my son does tae kwon do !
-
By the way.I think having these obsessions has helped him get to where he wanted to be in life.

Hi again,To answer your question, my son lives with two obsessions his martial arts and computers and has always said he would like to do computers as a career. The course he's doing also involves game design. At the moment he goes to college and sits at a computer all day( which is what he always did at home) then goes to martial arts evening and weekends. It's his dream come true!

Hi all a while since I've posted. My son( Aspergers) is 16 1/2 and goes to college. He is up at 7am mon-fri. He has a train journey of 30 mins there and back he arrives home at about 5 in the evening. He goes to martial arts 5 evenings and trains there for 3 hours on 3 evenings and 1 hours on 2 evenings. Then 6 hours on saturday. Takes it easy on sunday, unless there is a competition. All this is done on about 4 to 6 hours sleep a night! During holidays he will sleep half the day but always goes to bed at all hours, say 3 or 4am.Then when he has college and has to be up at 7am goes to bed at 1:30 or 2am.He says this is enough for him and I don't want to continue nagging.I go to bed late myself , after midnight usually but always try to get at least 7 hours. Is this bad for him? Any opinions grateful. He does seem fine but he is only in college a few weeks, although he was the same when he went to school.

I had to take 6 months off work when my son was younger. I was not sure if my job would be there when I was ready to go back and money was tight but I was very stressed and decided that my health had to come first. The time off helped me and my son and when I was ready I let my old job know, they were very supportive and as soon as an opening became available they called on me. Take a little time to think it over and whatever your decision , best of luck.

There's nothing to say to make you feel better, just take care of yourself <'>

I had my son tested for overactive thyroid at the age of 8. It turned out to be fine but it is just a simple blood test. Takes about 5 mins and the results usually take about 10 days. It put my mind at ease that his problems were not physical, and eased my worries as this condition can be dangerous if left untreated and I had been diagnosed in the past when I had gotten to a pretty dangerous stage.

Hi, firstly well done on the offers!.I would take the advice of Elouise and talk to someone in disability support services. My son hopes to go to university in 2009 and already I have found them very helpful with advice etc. it does depend on the university how much support is offered to people with disabilities but overall it's usually a pretty good service and will advise on almost anything. Hope this helps . Good luck and let us know how you get on.
