    Hello

hi gerry in scotland they have a new act called additional support for learning, this incorporates a coordinated support plan, which you can ask the school if your son has one and if not why he has not. not all those with aspergers get one but its a legal document that states how they will support your son at school. your son should have an educational psychologist, they are not always great, but they may be able to help you and your wife. i am in scotland where abouts are your familiy from. hope this is ok if you ned any further info just let me know. good luck cheers tess

  7. thanks for reply, i dont think you have to be professional,i think you have to be a parent with lots of undestanding, as most professionals i have dealt with have been a waste of time. cheers tessxx
  8. hi all i haven't been on here for years, getting my self together as it were. I dont know if this would be the right place to highlight my new service or not, but i was so fed up with no one being able to give me any practical help ,or strategies in my home when my son was diagnosed ,that i have now started mt own service to provide this for families. In my present job i work with adutls with Aspergers, and i have helped families deal with diagnosis, and practical support. This is were i had the idea to provide this on my own,but i live in scotland, and therefore am restricted to here for now I would welcome as much feedback as possible, from anyone on site, unfortunately intially i would have to charge, but once i became known ,then i could pitch at local authorities to access the service direct for families. my website is **** It is new so please dont expect too much when you visit but please give me feedback if you can thanksyou tess xx Hi - Tess We are sorry, but the forum rules do not permit direct links to commercial services. 9. Hi all I have not been on the forum for many months due to ill health. However i have to say that I personally feel that listening to many of the members when my son first had a diagnosis, frightened me to death and caused me to feel even more despair. I think that there should be a warning about the frankness or maybe that the experience of others will not necessarily be your experience, because i believed that my son was going to have a life of absolute misery , which is not the case. I have had to fight for resources but my son is a very happy child and your forum seems to focus always on the bleak and almost hopeless side of ASD. I had to phyisicaly stop myself from going on your site as i became so depressed.I have instead become a member of several steering groups in the Scottish Executive to address ASD, and feel that my contribution will help many people within Scotland. I understand that many people need a place to discuss thier experiences , but i also feel that there should be some evidence of responsibility , in respect of info available to parents who are new to this. I know that i will not be very popular with this but i feel that i had to say it ............sorry tess

    scottish system

Hi sarahjane, i have lived in Scotland for 10 yrs now, and i have a son 9 yrs with AS.I have a record of needs for him, because this is a legally binding document.I had great difficulty in the begginning to get the teachers to co-operate with me, but now it seems slightly better. I think the biggest problem is that not many people understand the condition , and therefore they dismiss us as over protective mothers ect. I would recommend you speak to ISEA the scottish equivilent of IPSEA down south the no is 0131 454 0096. Where in Scotland are you , and what is your Local Authority. good luck Take care Tess

    Is this legal

I am as disgusted as all other replies have indicated.could you not inform the Disability rights commission, or something this is so appauling, the poor child and mum. Tess
  12. Carol ISEA covers all of scotland and is an Independant special education advice service. They have lots of expert knowledge and will help parents at meetings ect, they rely on a bank of volunteers who are very knowledgable. Also with the new additional support bill, they will eventualy support parents through the tribunal system. I hope this makes sense tess
  13. Hi carol i am also in scotland and have not heard of scorg, but ISEA have new funding and are up and running now there no is 0131 454 0096 I think they might be able to help! Maybe scorg are part of the new additional support for education act ?who knows if you find out any more would you let us know cheers take care tess
