  1. The thing is they didnt explain about his other problems and it made out that kids with aspergers just sit in a room all day not communicating wih anyone, this is why my son Nick was so upset as he has aspergers and is nothing like the boy on the programme, and yet some people will assume that all aspies are like this
  2. Me and Nick have just watched this programme which had an 18 year old with aspergers. The young man was quite badly affected by his autisum, but the TV programme portrayed him as a very badly disabled person who would not communicate with anyone, he also had to have everything done for him and could not be left alone. They kept on saying "Aspergers syndrome" and Nick got really angry. He is trying his best to fit in with everyone at college, but he gets teased about his autisum and he thinks that everyone will think he is the same as the boy. The programme should have said that people can have various degrees of aspergers from mild to severe
  3. Hiya sorayas son here. theres no such thing as normal, because everyone has their individual problems and needs. the thing is, being yourself may scare people away at times, but the ones who accept you are the only ones worth having. to be quite honest people who judge a book by its cover never learn the real story, and miss out BIG TIME this is just from personal experience as i have aspergers. Take care Nicholas Xx
  4. Poor you, sending lots of <'> <'> This could so easily be happening to Nick, drugs are so frightening you are doing the right thing, my Nick stole some bits from the fishing shop, but my husband would not go to the police, which l disagreed with, but l know how you feel.
  5. Hi Flora, yes l think you could be right, although l stick to WW l do eat quite a few of the WW bars and crisps!!!! I will cut down on the carbs and see what happens
  6. I am so fed up, put on 1lb!!!!!!! I really have been sticking to my diet and going to the gym everyday, what do l have to do to loose weight!!
  7. Follyfoot!! yes id forgotten that one, l dont think it was as old as white horses though!!I also remember thinking steve was quite a hunk!!
  8. Thanks so much kazzan, im not going mad after all, what memories that brings back, l also found "white Horses", l was horse mad and used to pretend l was the girl on the white horse!!OMG l feel really old now
  9. Hi Karen, if you are interested in home learning try online teaching called Accipio, Nick was out of school for 18months and this was a life saver. It is not cheap but our LEA paid for ours, it is virtual learning where the kids log on at the same time for their lesson, they talk to the teacher through headphones and it is fantastic. Of corse school is better for social interaction but if like us you have no alternative but to home ed Accipio is really good. Hope things get better for you
  10. I have been to the gym everyday this week and feeling very smug, I drop Nick off at the station at 8 and l am in the gym by 8.15. Been doing ww for 6 weeks and only lost 2lb, our leader said l have to get my metabolic rate up to see if it helps, fingers crossed for weigh in on Monday
  11. Does anyone remember hoppity? I keep singing the song and everyone thinks I am mad, no one remembers it, was it real or a figmant of my imagination!!

    'The Family'

I love this programme, and agree with Enid about the bathroom, I could not stand all the kids walking through my bedroom, what happens when they need a wee in the night?!!!I think the Dad is a bit of a hero as he seems to do all the cooking!! And wasnt he sweet leaving a valantines brekkie for the wife. I think the sofa is great!!
  13. Just wanted to say you are not alone, have been through this many many times with Nick <'> <'> <'> Hope things are calm today
  14. Well done, you have fought so hard, and been through such a lot, is it a residential school? <'> <'>
  15. My son Nick went to an EBD school as there was no where else and he found it really tough, the other kids took the mickey out of him all the time which made Nick react in a violent way. He now goes to a 14plus unit at our local college and to start with had all the same problems as the kids were also from the local PRU unit, but the colege has been fantastic and he now goes in with the 16year olds who have had to retake GCSE. This has been great as he is now away from the EBD kids and is with more mature kids who want to learn. We have learnt from bitter experience that you cannot mix EBD and ASD kids together. The only reason that the EBD schools take our kids is because of the bad behaviour due their needs not being met in the first place!!!What a crazy system

    hello again!!

Hi Hev, glad to see you back, sorry things arnt so good with school <'> <'>
  17. Hi Enid, Hope things have calmed down for you, l would def see about getting his meds changed. How is he at school? Surley they must be having problems with him. Hang on in there Nick was so so bad at 13, but he is much much better now. Thinking of you <'> <'> <'>
  18. I agree with Flora, Nicks old school/home books were vital for evidence when it came to fight for a statement. I would urge anyone who is having trouble with school to get one. Make sure the teacher signs it !!!!!!!!!
  19. Thanks everyone, remember there is light at the end of the tunnel, l really feel we have turned a corner
  20. Thanks everyone, l am one happy mom tonight
  21. Just a thought, how far away is the special school? I have heard that " The SEN childs journey to school must be as stess free as posible and no more than 45mins each way. This info could help you.
  22. Oh Cariad sending lots of <'> <'> I really do know what you are going through, Nick used to pee on his floor all the time, in the end we had to take the carpet up and put a laminate floor down, he did this for 2 years and could not tell us why he did it. He also got really violent and abusive, we were refered to the intensive team, and he was admitted to an assesment unit at hospital, he had to stay during the week, but he came home at weekends. It was good as he finally got a statement through it and medication. We used to feel so low and usless as parents but we got through it and have now turned a corner as Nick hasent been violent for ages. Hang on in there it will get better l promise <'> <'> I am sure that puberty has a lot to do with this as so many people post about their 12-13year olds getting worse.
  23. You are so right pearl AS is defenately the unseen disability
  24. Well done Steve, it seems our boys have finally turned themselves around. I just love good news
  25. Havent posted for a while, due to the summer hols but wanted to bring you up to date. In July the head of the PRU that Nick went to left the school and to say me and Nick were devestated is an understatement, but it was for the best as the head pursuaded Nick to rethink his placement at the local college for sept. They have a unit for 14-16year olds who find mainstream difficult for whatever reason, he can take 4 GCSEs and do catering once a week Our biggest hurdle was the train as Nick used to get off and come home, but so far this week he has managed everyday and is loving every minuite!! This week is activity week so it is a lot of fun, but he seems to be getting on with everyone and he even got a merit for being helpful and getting on well with others( is this my child she asks!!! ) Nick seems so much better lately maybe puberty has finally passed!!
