    What would you do?

I wonder how many of us are feeling like this tonite? We've decided not to send our son into school tomorrow- he should be starting year 10. I feel its up to us to keep him safe (he's been bullyed) and as the school cant do it, then we have to do what we think is best. Good luck to everyone.

    Statement hours?

Thanks for replies. I intend to do all i can to get extra hours, i shall make sure they know it at the review meeting on weds. I have someone from our asperger group coming with me. Part of the reason is that he is afraid of all the pushig and shoving and noise in the corridors between lessons and i have told them the only way they will get him back in full time is if he has an lsa or someone he can trust to accompany him to his lessons. they say if they did it would only be temporary and depend on lsa availabily so i figure if he has extra hours-which he will need anyway to do gcse work, then they should be able to do it. But then he said this evening that he might get teased cos of it,so what do you do? I spoke to someone at ACE and they said because his problems at school have caused him to threaten to kill himself rather than go to school, they are already responsible for causeing him physoclogical injury. But i dont know if telling school that will help.

    Statement hours?

can anyone with a child with aspergers and attending mainstream school year9 help me with advice on hours? my son year now has 15 in his statement and extra 5 given by school. We have his review meeting on weds and the senco has already told me there is no point in trying to get him full time help including lunchtimes as there is no way the lea will agree to it. why not? i believe i can disagree with what is put ,but surly its in the schools best interests too-to get him as much help as they can especially with gcse next 2 years.
  4. My son (aspergers) has been disapplied from the year 9 sats that took place last week and i and he are very relieved. He failed the mocks in english and science and didnt do too well in maths which is his fav subject apart from ict. They put so much presure on him in the couple of weeks after that we are still trying to get him back into school full time, after becoming depressed and wanting to kill himself. So the senco said he could be disaplied and i told her i really didnt care as i wouldnt be sending him into school when they took place. Sats arent needed-my 2 older daughters did fine without them and one is now a school teacher!!!!
  5. Am in same situation year 9 but cant find thread to links errr.. how do i get there please?
  6. Is anyone out there doing this with their childs secondary school? We're hoping it might be a way to get our son back into school. It seems more difficult with the high shcool time table, as each lesson is an hour and we'd be backwards and forwards with him all day. Anyway any advice would be welcome.
  7. We live in Norwich and I know young people with Aspergers who have gone to City College and been in the Rug group it really seems to do them so much good. We're hoping its still up and running well when our son is old enough to go there in 3 years time.
  8. Thanks to everyone who replied when I wrote that my son wanted to kill himself. I kept on at GP and clinic and have gone from the waiting list to to seeing someone at Camhs on 14th april. Hes not unhappy at the moment but then its still school holidays. He says hes not going back next week but as Gp signed him off until clinic appointment am not too worried now. Just the thought of trying to teach him at home makes me exhausted, he is so full on all the time. Going to post on education site about flexi schooling.
  9. Thanks Clare-hope for the future thats what we need..must admit am really thinking of going to Gp in the morn and getting him put off ,then we'll have till after easter hols. School does know ,it was senco said get gp to refer to clinic. At emergancy statement meeting we dropped 2 subjects for him so he can have extra help with english maths and science as he completely failed mocks sats.Senco and english teacher both admit quality of work like 9 or 10 years old. Have told senco want another meeting to dicuss my boys state of mind rather than academic(i thought we were going to in 1st meeting) and partly without him there-its so wrong to go through it all with them there. To top everything off eldest daughter -a year 5 teacher-has rung to say she's been put offf for a week with stress !! Unfortuately mum cant be put off sick.
  10. Thanks for your replies. We have taken him to our Gp which is how we are on Cliinc waiting list,Dr is going to write again and they have advised me to write as well-it may hurry things up-being on the waiting list in the NHS usually means they cant give you an appointment within 3 months and we cant wait that long. Social services i spoke to earlier in the week said i should speak to duty officer if it happened again as they ight be able to gat an earlier visit. But my husband doesnt want me to as he is worried they might take him into care.they dont do that now do they? At the moment he is a happy bunny sitting infront of the wii browsing the games. He asked if he had to go to school on monday and i said yes .then he said even if we have a repeat of the othe day? Dont know if he being crafty or threatening me? Anyway making the most of peace. And yes Sandyn we all love stitch in our house-he is my sons alter ego cute and fluffy but can turn into a monster!! We have soft toys ,t-shirts ,socks etc with him on.The toy that goes to bed with him is almost squashed flat.
  11. Can anyone sugest to me what i can do to to help my 13 year old son who has aspergers. He is depressed, he doesnt want to go to school says he would rather kill himself. He doesnt see the point in it all cos we're all going to die anyway. School is aware of this. Waiting for appointment for childrens clinic, applied to social services for assements for us both but every thing seems to take so long. I dont think he trusts us anymore because we make him go to school. The books dont tell you what to do when they reach this stage.
  12. A bunch of flowers from the supermarket is my 2 weekly treat--as everyone else the rest goes in th kitty-lucky kitty!
  13. just looking round to see if antone going thrugh same probs as us at the mo and ...low and behold someone mentions getting an assement of your needs by social service.I'd forgotten you can do that-we get so wrapped up iin the here and now of ous childrens problems that we need a little memory jog.
  14. Elasticated trousers only go upto age 12 in bhs after that you end up checking out the mail order catalogue sites aimed at older men ie over 60's sorry! I have tried everywhere for my son who is a little on the plump side. You can get mens trousers with a bit of elastic at the back but they always have a zip and that blooming button that has to be replaced with the beloved velco-that stuff is so hard to get a needle through. Then of course they have to taken up 6 inches. If there is no elastic they hurt the tummy so get pulled down to hip level and then wear out from the hem upwards. He has a new pair every 6 weeks so I get them in asda @6 a time. Shirt buttons are managed now but the tie I live in fear of him getting strangled. At high school elasticated ties will get pinged and as my husband will verify the clip on type can also cause a nasty injury if someone grabs you round the neck.Used to be on door duty at Gouvernment building. Velcro do-up shoes are more available now and socks with coloured heels and toe help find out exactly where they go on your foot! Then even if they have got permission to wear soething not quite school uniform ie track suit bottoms he lives in fear of the teachers who dont know he's allowed and have a go at him. No wonder they cant cope at school if even their clothes are driving them crazy.
  15. Thanks will try to find it. Costs a fortune buying and trying ! As for sealents I did ask as older daughter had them years ago but dentist said no for son?
