  1. Kerry i also have ocd although not bad but bad enough to be annoying both for me and others around me.I also have I suspect a.s. tendancies. I think you will find ocd can often run along side a.s. though obviously not always. I am lucky in that both of my two children are n.t. although my daughter was severely autistic following an mmr vaccination that caused her to have autistic encephalitus. She has since made a full recovery. You sound like you need some of these <'> <'> <'> I too have suffered from depression.I have read somewhere that people with ocd, a.s. etc are more prone to depression not sure if this is true though. Take care of yourself .Feel free to pm me if you need to chat.Best Wishes hope things get better for you soon.
  2. Tmf <'> <'> <'> <'> Have some of these.I would guess life isn't easy for you sometimes.I think like others have said it is a case of trying to be patient.
  3. I have read this is the case with some people with a.s. as well.
  4. I stop myself from being too contolling as well but i would guess the more severe your a.s. is the hared it is to not be controlling.
  5. I too am a ver fast reader and an even faster talker not sure if this is part of my as tendancies or not though
  6. I would say that quite a few adults and children with a.s. like control.I think it is their way of feeling secure particularly in areas they struggle in emotions, socialising etc.
  7. Viper <'> <'> <'> <'> for you and all the others suffering. What you are describing sounds very much like depression to me.I've been there myself.Pleaase please see your g.p and get the help you need. Pleas take care.Depression is so draining and at the time you can see no way out. feel free to pm me if you wish.
  8. I would also say that someone's a.s. can vary accoring to how stessed or tired they are.In some people they can appear n.t when totally relaxed however when they are stressed it is a different story. This has been obvious by the posts on this thread who do not fit the so called ''normal'' criteria fora.s. yet still have a diagnosis of a.s.
  9. I can so identify with this thread. What are the chances of someond doing all these things that supposedly people with a.s. are not supposed to do getting a diagnosis?
  10. Just wanted to say excellent thread although I don't feel I can personally comment.I do agree with all that has been said so far though and will read this thread with much interest.
  11. I have thought about this memory thing long and hard and have read a fair bit on it.What it seems to me is that for a lot of people with a.s. their short term memory is genuinally very poor and they seem to get easily confused and have trouble organising themselvesi.e. in that they are often unsure what things are planned from one day to the next. However long term memory is often excellent down to remembering colours of things from years back. With dsylexia memory is poor full stop long term short term it tends to make no difference. Hope this helps.
  12. Michelle I too can identify with much of what you are saying. <'> <'> <'>
  13. Thanks for this steve.I wish her all the best.i know from personal experience the mmr does cause much damage.Interesting reading

    Sorry

Hailey I can so relate to what you are saying.I have never seen my biological father since i was five but there are certain triggers thatmake you think and I sometimes cant help feeling regret for what might have been.He bought me the record ''sugar sugar''.When i was a little girl each week a record would be brought out. They were called ''Top of the Tots''They had a picture of two dolls on the front and they were records purely for kids.I think another one had ''we all live in a yellow submarine '' on it.Each week he used to buy me the record. Even now if one of those tunes comes on I have to walk out the room or turn it off.Records can have alot to answer for Anyway now i'm showing my age, no one else probably knows what I am talking about Hailey Have some of these <'> Life can be tough sometimes can't it.Take care and look after yourself.

    Hello,

I do think it is disgusting the amount of adults that come onto this forum and want/need a diagnosis and are fobbed off by their gp because it comes down to money or because they have managed so far. It's hardly helpful is it.
  17. gthewingedserpent I agree with you. Many adults with a.s. are told they are shy.Often this is not the case and it is just they quite simply don't know what to say and are often unable to follow the conversation fully and communicate in the same way as others. Hope this makes sense They are often told they are rude as well.Yet this is unfair as well.It is often they don't understand the rules of social etiquette. I would say many people witha.s. are interested in talking to people if they can lead the conversation and talk about what they wish to talk about. They often will not be lead onto other subjects
  18. A stuck record is a very good description of it. I must admit I don't do the dates thing I can't remember but I think from what i have read it is quite common for some people with a.s. to say in 1992 or in 1994. It can either be annoying or quite amazing and funny.
  19. Yes this is as far as i am aware an a.s trait. I myself am very guilty of it.My dh says i am still going on about things that happened ten years ago. He adopts what he calls the three strike rule.in that he will answer the same question three times then that is it, even if i word the question in a different way he has got wise to it. From my experience many people with a.s. are like has all ready been said a dog with a bone they never give up and find it difficult to forgive and forget and often go on and on and on. I am definately guilty of all of the above but i have learnt over years to forgive but not forget I think the excellent a.s. memory might come into play here and in this case has much to answer for.
  20. Baddad I agree with you entirely that for some people with a.s. socially they are not interested or only on their terms.Like you said that isn't shyness that is just preference. Excellently put.i couldn't have put it better myself. Seriously though well put
  21. As a child I was unable to do ballet dancing up on pointes as my toes completely bent in the middle particularly the second and third one.The dancing teacher said that as well as being extremely flexible and having a double jointed back my toes were also double jointed. Not very helpful for ballet. I would suspect I have a.s. tendancies
  22. My son could be said to be like your son from the few things you have said.He is not the outgoing person my daughter is.Does that mean he has a.s.? No of course not. I agree with what has all ready been said in that we are not all social butterflies. But doesn't mean we all have a.s. There may be a problem but there might not be.It could be he has for example a.s. tendancies and that is as much as it is or equally it could be more.try to keep an open mind and try not to panic at this stage. <'> <'> <'> Easier said than done i know. Try to bear in mind as well even if he does have a problem he is still your little boy and the same one you have always had. Take care and best wishes. keep us informed hope you get some answers
  23. Shona I haven't been diagnosed either but i just know i have as tendancies and that is enough for me too. <'> <'>
  24. I am double jointed and i would suspect i have as tendancies. Don't know if there is an actual medical name for it though i just thought i was double jointed.
  25. asereht I cant tell the difference between cars either and my hubby used to have a silve car which was a big problem to me.I had to read the number plates or he had to lean out of the car in a car park waving at me like an idiot. To me all cars look the same and I have to go by colour.
