Hi We are considering this as our holiday this year. Has anyone been any tips/suggestion. We will be taking ds who is 6 who has ASD and NT dd who is 4. Ds does have problems with queues sometimes! is it possibe to get passes at Eurodisney so that you dont have to queue like you get at some theme parks in this country? Hi My son had AIT about 2 years ago now. There are 2 centres in London which offer AIT and I'm certain it was the Sound Learning Centre we went with in the end. To cut a long story short unfortunatly it did not help my son at all (it was a 2 week course) so i was very dissapointed, but another little boy who was having treatment at the same time as my son was back for his second tretment as the first had helped him. So I suppose all experiences are different! We were also lucky enough to have the treatment funded by our PCT as I remeber it was quite expensive. if you want any more info PM me and I'll tell you a bit more. Good luck with your decision Lyns

hi My son who is 6 and is quite severly autistic has recntly had his annual review. Anyway to cut a long story short I want written into his statement that he needs 1:1 (he currently receives this for his whole day at school at the moment) and I want written that he needs autistic only provision (he is in an autistic unit at the moment) He has been to a special school of mixed ability and really did not cope. He constantly self harmed and had major tantrums. However we are moving out of the area in September and will have a new LEA. The changes that he has had written in are as follows(his previous statement has hardly anything worth mentioning in it) 1 Access to a broad and balanced curriculum including the natonal curriculum, modified in such a way that is accessible to him. In order to deliver the appropriate approaches it is anticipated jamie will need access to high levels of 1:1 support by staff who have relevant training and expertise in meeting the needs of autism. 2 It is expected that jamie will be supported in a specialist environment that is adapted specifically to meet the needs of pupils with autism including the use of a specialist curriculum. Do you think these statements will support my case for wanting autistic only provision and 1:1 I'm obviously quite worried as change of school will be a major thing for jamie so its going to be really important that his statement is right. Im just a bit concerned that it doesnt quantiy how much1:1 he will need and not sure what high levels mean. Ive tried ringing IPSEA but cant get through and Ive only got another 10 days before I have to reply. Im tempted to just agree with what they have ritten for now just so he can take a new statemnt away with him to a new LEA as his old one is absolute rubbish to be honest. Hi all Many thanks for your replys. Its so nice to be able to just let it all out sometimes to people who understand so thanks for listening. Hes still been the same in the night and last night he was awake from 1am till 5am and then had a couple of hours sleep and got up at 7am and in that time hhe just kept screaming. I'm going to take your advice and go back again!!!! In fact I might just bypass the doctor altogether (he is the only one in my practice) and just go over to the hospital I just dont care what they think of me. The thing is I know something is bothering him still at night as he has always loved going to bed and has always slept right through, if he ever has woken up he has always settled himself and gone straight back to sleep and it just seems too much of a coinincedence that this has all started from the ear infection. Hi I am feeling really down today, I just cant stop crying I'm not sure what to do really. Last week ds had an ear infection and got antibitics and eardrops. Its really difficult to detect when he is ill but he started to self harm (hitting himself, banging head on wall etc) so I knew something was wrong. Anyway this behaviour carried on all week and was especially bad in the night, he wouldnt sleep and all night was trying to hurt himself To cut a long story short he had to have 2 lots of antibiotics but ear infection has now gone. He is really happy in the day and totally back to normal but when it comes to nighttime he starts up the self harming again. He'll maybe go to sleep for a couple of hours and then the screaming and hitting starts again I cant bear it anymore I just dont know what to do his poor little face has bruises all over it and I just cant bear to look at him when hes like that it upsets me so much. I just dont know what to do about this. I'm physically and mentally drained and feel so ill myself. Ive been back to the docs with him and the doc said "what do you want me to do I'm not a miracle worker this behaviour is part of autism I'm afraid" I know noone can really help but I just needed to get this off my chest Thanks for listening Lyns xxx

Hi My son has just turned 6 and totally non verbal. I spent years worrying about this but I've now just accepted it to be honest. As long as he can communicate as best as he can which he does I started PECS with him when he was 2 and he can now also use sign language as well. He is the way he is and if he does talk that would be great but if not then thats just the way its meant to be. He tries so hard and I am so proud of his acheivements. Good luck to you both <'>

Hi Last year I did a CACHE Early years care and education course which was distant learning at my local college (only had to go to college once a term). I did my placement at a local nursery. It fitted into my life perfectly. I've got my qualification now and the nursery where I ddi my placement took me on term time only and I am now the SENCO there which was exactly what I wanted. I' would contact your local college or you could even contact CACHE to see where they are offering their courses. Good luck and if you want any help pm me Lyns xxxx

Hi Just wanted to tell you I know how you feel. My son will be 6 at the end of April and he is clingy to the extreme like you say its not the same clingy that other children go through its definatly more intense. My son will not leave my side for a second if I sit down he sits down too but not any distance apart he either has to be touching me or literally right on top of me. When I go to the loo he comes too and if I shut the door he sits outside waiting for me. I've kinda got used to it now, and when hes at school and I'm on my own at home it feels kinda strange to not have him shadowing me. I love him to absolute bits but it is physically wearing to have him with me every second of the day!!! The only time I have time to myself is when he goes to bed or when hes at school. Sorry that I dont have any useful advice but I just wanted to let you know that your not alone <'> Take care Lyns xxxx

Hi We will be moving right out of our area really soon and my son will be moving to a different school. He currently has a statement and is in an autistic unit at the moment on an aba programme. The next school that he goes to he will not be doing aba as i am keen to come away from it but it is on his statement. I was just wondering would it be useful to have a review of his statement before he moves to another school. We saw a school where we hope my son will go to and im sure the headmaster told me it might be useful to do this but I cant remember why he told us this as it was a while ago now. Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated Lyns xx

Hi nellie Thanks for replying to my post below regarding independant schools. You mention in your post about LEAs not being allowed to have a "blanket policy" as in the SEN Code of Practice. I've had a look through the code of practice and cant find anything related to that in there. Culd you point me in the right direction to where I can find it. Hi Does anyones children go to an independant school that is funded by the LEA. Just interested really as our LEA said they would never fund an independant school. Did you have to go to tribuneral? If so what reason did you give that your child would benefit more from an independant school. Just wondering really as I am thinking of doing this. Our LEA dont have specific autistic provision just special schools that have children with autism in them although there is an independant school in the area just for autism. Thanks Lyns xxxxx

Hi Thanks for your replys. Sorry should have been a bit more specific. I have seen quite a few special schools in this area and there are only 2 that I think will cater for Jamies needs. However the LEA are saying that they wont garuntee him any place until he is in the area so if these schools are full they will only offer him what is available, so possibly mainstream which really is out of the question for jamie as he has very challenging behaviour and needs a high level of support (he currently has 1:1 at all times in his current statement) but would still not be happy with that in a mainstream environment as he would never cope. Really dont know what to do now as there is no way I would ever want to be in this situation but we're goint ot have to do it soon. I'm really worried and upset, it hard enough looking after Jamie at times as it is as he needs 24 hour care without this worry as well. LEAs make me angry they have no idea what its like to care for a severly disabled child and the implications it has on us as a family yet they make important decisions in our lives Thanks for listening Lyns xxx

Hi I am looking for advice regarding school placements. I am having to move out of my area because my partner is having to transfer jobs. His job will be in Winchester, now I know for certain that I will be moving into this area because of this. My son is 6 and quite severly autistic and needs a high level of care, he currently has a statement with his needs in from my local authority. I have contacted the LEA in this area who say that they will not offer my son a place in any school until I have moved into the area. But I am not wanting to move until I know for certain which school he will be going to cos knowing my luck all special schools would be full and there would only be mainstream and this is definatly not an option for Jamie. What should I do, I'm really not prepared to just move and have nothing for him at all there is no way I would ever put Jamie into mainstream, so not sure what to do next really. Any help or advice will be greatfully received Lyns xxxx

Hi I will be moving to Hampshire some time this year as my partner will be moving jobs (live in essex at the mo) so I was wondering if anyone knew of any schools that are worth reccommending for me to go and look at. Have already seen one which is called XXXX ( edited by moderator ) which is in Fareham and it and this looked good but want to see more than one. My son is nearly 6 and is autistic and I am actually looking more for an autistic school rather than mainstream. He is non verbal and has challenging behaviour problems. Any advice or anyone know of any good schools all help will be greatly appreciated Thanks

Hi Sorry I havent been around for a long time so I will give my self a quick re-introduction. I'm Lynsay and I have 2 children my eldest who is nearly 6 has Autism his main difficulties are that he is non verbal, behaviour problems, self harms the list goes on but I hasten to add the behaviour and self harm is on particularly bad days the rest of the time he is my little angel!!! At the moment he is stimming quite a lot on generally everything and with this he is shouting screeching and making really weird loud noises. Now if he did this occasionaly it wouldnt be so bad but at the moment he seems like he is doing it all day long and I cant bear it any more I have a constant headache . Any ideas of how to cut this back a bit. He does it when we are out too and we get the filthiest looks from people. Just wondering is this a common problem or am I alone in this type of behaviour Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated Lyns

Hi My son who is nearly 5 receives 1:1 25 hours a week and has done since starting. The school he is at runs a verbal behaviour unit where their teaching is Applied Behaviour Analysis. He really needs it though so my advice would be to really push for it if you feel this is what he requires. Good luck

Hi Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of any alternative remedies or anything really that might help to calm my sons aggressive tantrums . I'll give anything a go, he will be 5 in a months time. Thanks
