  1. Would Nat accept a bath without bubbles? Perhaps that would be a start. There are some shower gels that are more a mousse and my son accepts those where he won't accept other soap like products, but they are very lathery (is that a word?) so maybe that would be worse for Nat. How old is he? Would he accept 'bath bombs' they are fun to watch fizzing in the water but don't soap up like soap but may still help with getting him clean. My son now refuses to shower but will accept a bath if I sit with him and read to him, are there any distraction techniques you could use like that. Sorry if that's a ridiculous idea - sure someone else will have a better one - luv Witsend.
  2. A few days ago I brought up the topic of Aspergers with my son in preparation for forthcoming meeting with consultant. Today he has been asking lots (and I mean lots) of questions about it, in fact is seems to have become his newest obsession - move over star wars! LOL. Thing is since we have been through every symptom several times complete with examples and role play ( I kid you not) he seems to have decided this is something he does have and as a result his 'aspie' behaviour has become a million times more apparent! Now at first I just thought he was acting up to his 'new role' in life but then I started wondering. I have read a couple of postings here in the past where people have said their childrens 'symptoms' have got worse since diagnosis and I thought maybe once a child is given a label of AS they actually feel like they have been given permission to be more themselves, hence the more pronounced behaviour?? Does that make sense to anyone or is it just me and the wine bottle talking?? Luv Witsend.
  3. Hi Trinity - welcome to the forum. I can identify quite a bit with that you've said. I rejected the idea of aspergers for quite some time too in relation to my sons problems, not really cos i was scared but more that I didn't understand what it was all about. Since I've become more informed it has got easier to accept that this is something my son may well have - in fact it seems laughable now that I didn't pick up on it earlier. I also only really appreciated how 'different' my son is when I had another child and saw the developemental differences between them. As for advice re diagnosis well I'm still travelling that road and what a long one it is! I have heard so many opinions about my son they have driven me mad trying to work out what's right and what isn't. But what i would say is do your research and have belief in yourself that you know your child best then be prepared to keep on and on until you find the right person who will listen to you. Sorry if that sounds a bit vague, but what has become apparent to me is that there is no one easy route to diagnosis. In the meantime take heart that now you have recognised the 'problem' you can start to tackle it. Good luck - Witsend.
  4. We were out in the fields walking the dog when the storm broke - we ran home because I'd left the washing out. Only to find I'd locked us out -left kids and dog getting drenched whilst borrowed ladder from neighbour then had to get eldest son to climb up to bedroom window crawl through and let us in! Quite an adventure. Eldest son loved it all youngest son and dog not too impressed. I'm was just thankful had left window open! Washing soaked by time I got to it and guess what washing machine broke down this morning - had had to use dads washer (happy fathers day!) earlier in the day and so couldn't re-spin it once I rescued it - had to put heating on to get it dry (was like Bahamas here) especially sons uniform for tomorrow - then realised it's no uniform day tomorrow for charity and I needen't have bothered after all. Also realised had to get bottle of wine to donate to school raffle ( as payment for non uniform day) so got 2!! Hence the rambling - can laugh about it now....Witsend.
  5. Wonderful!! Took my son with me to the vets recently, our dog has epilepsy (I know!) and was having his routine check which involves the vet taking his temprature. When we came out I commented that the dog looked a bit cheesed off son replied "I don't blame him, wouldn't you if someone stuck a theasaurus up your a***!" Aren't they fab?
