  1. It's been a long haul but we do seem to be finally getting there in spite of the b****y RO going on holiday last week right in the middle of it all. The provision was negotiated over the holiday with Com's consultant doing most of the work (she was fantastic ) and the senior RO telling us that 'anything is possible' We had final confirmation that the package is to go ahead just last night
  2. Com now has a combination of home tuition and 1-1 in a medical needs unit, currently an e-learning package is also being set up. All funded and managed by the LEA PM me if you want to know more Z

    WARNING

I got an email from the Bank of Scotland this morning telling me to follow a link because of a security upgrade. I am not a customer of the Bank of Scotland - very suspicious If you get this email do not follow the link, if you are a customer go to the official website and contact the bank from there instead. takin a break

take care, Flutter. People need to have their say and sometimes it gets out of hand but it'll calm down soon, you know we're not usually like this here. don't stay away too long Zemanski
  8. we had to ring social services to get a form, just a basic 'are you registered disabled?' form, and the back had a bit for the GP to fill in. The GP filled it in, free, and Com now has a free bus pass which allows a carer (anyone) to travel free with him too. It also allows him to travel by train for 35p within Yorkshire and as far as Manchester. Com gets middle rate with lower rate for mobility. Z
  9. speaking of DIY My dad and brother both had a thing for carrying nails around in their pockets - must have been pretty uncomfortable and they usually had more holes than pockets My mum was constantly complaining about finding nails in the washing machine, replacing the seal was a regular job! last week I found 3 drawing pins in the washing machine, I can't imagine why anyone would want to put drawing pins in their pockets - ouch! Z
  10. Jill - good thing he wasn't patronising as he is completely wrong! Pi never repeats itself. Here is a link to the first million places... 11. The pampers ones are very expensive, if you can get the washable ones they are very good (try searching the internet for special needs/disability supplies if your OT/paediatrician/health visitor/ social worker can't help) another thing I spotted recently on the internet is that they do puppy toilet training mats in some of the pet supply stores and they appear to be the same as the disposable pampers sheets but cheaper - just a thought Zemanski

  14. very common in children with ASCs, ADHD, dyspraxia and dyslexia it is thought to be to do with attention deficit and problems with sequencing short term memory some things to remember when giving instructions - 1. make them short and to the point, do not give extra information or embed them in conversation 2. never give more than one instruction at a time (not actually as easy as it sounds - get your socks from the clean laundry pile and put your shoes and socks on may sound straight forward to us because the 2 instructions are connected but it is actually more than some children might be able to cope with; go to the bedroom and get your socks is also 2 instructions and the child will probably only do the first part, get your socks from your bedroom will probably be more effective) 3. ask the child to repeat the instruction back to you - this not only makes sure they have heard and understood the whole instruction but helps train the short term memory 4. repeat the instruction again before the child sets off. hope that helps a bit Zemanski
  15. one more specialist not working for our children any more having said that I totally agree with what she is saying Z

mine too - in our 3 1/2 days in France Dot managed 13 swims with various members of the family. I managed 2! wish we lived by the sea but there are lovely becks and shallow rivers in yorkshire to make up for it Z

    im cringing

I can beat you all hands down on the embarrassing clothes front - When I was 17 I was in a production called 'rock on Cinders', a mega rock and roll musical. We were jiving away and I was centre stage when I realised my skirt elastic was a bit loose and my skirts and petticoats were round my ankles I have tried very, very hard to forget that experience Zemanski
  19. <'> <'> <'> doesn't seem to be the best year for holidays in France, does it? at least the weather here is good, but I don't suppose that will help much with the itching - poor kids, chicken pox season is supposed to start in october when it's nice and cool. hope they're all clear for your august trip Z
  20. Are you sure he's AS? - sounds more like an NT to me The way Com talks to everyone at the moment is little more than a sneer and a grunt must be the hormones <'> <'> <'> Z

much less of it burning today and you can't small the peat in Leeds now Z
  22. .... pi to all its decimal places? I didn't think you could do that, Com usually stops at about 10, I stop at 3 or let the calculator deal with it it's a very useful number when working with circles - needed for calculating areas and circumferences Z
  23. I think of AS as a condition or way of being rather than a disorder so I veer away from the idea of a disability although the impact of the condition can be extremely disabling. There was a time when it was PC to refer to people with disabilities as 'differently abled' and if I think of ASCs that way I have no problem with the idea that people should be supported from disability services etc in order to cope with the disabling affect of their different abilities. Our society is not geared up to support people with ASCs so they are often disabled within it. Z
