  1. Yes! we've had this before. Quite often, when something happened the school would see it their way and my son would see it another. I would often ask them to please try to see it from his point of view and then his behaviour/etc might make some sense, not only that, but they would be more likely to find a solution to the problem. Unfortunately that school refused to even try so we didnt do well there.

    He did it!!

thats fab news well done I know EXACTLY how you're feeling, my ds has been out of school since Year 4 (now Year 10) and he has just completed six weeks trial at a residential place. Started part time but finally managed one full week. He's loved it, they love him (well, they say they do LOL) and they've just offered him a place Six months ago I wouldnt have ever thought this would happen as I'd lost all faith in any school :D
  3. this thread is really useful, thanks my son is just off to residential school - just finishing an assessment so place as of Nov, so we'll be doing all this too
  4. sending ((hugs)) and hope you get sorted. Hopefully the school will help.
  5. sounds like you've just described my dd (now 16). she had some counselling at school, but I never had contact with the counsellor, or had any idea what they discussed. The counsellor booked an appt for dd during half term (!!!!) which of course didnt happen and no more appts followed. This was going back some years now. My dd also has some of her own health issues, and was later referred to a Psychologist through her own medical team, as we all felt she was struggling to cope, and she's had several appts with this new lady. I was invited to one appt, and had a brief chat but other than that have never spoken to the lady about what is discussed. (do talk to my dd though, and she sometimes talks about the appts).
  6. we stuck with mainstream for years, and it was incredibly stressful, for everyone! things deteriorated and he went from a fulltime pupil to 3 hours a week 1-2-1 in link ed following an exclusion, and what went inbetween is too long to go into. But he's missed about 4 years of school I thought we'd never get him into a school ever again. Now he's at a special school and loving every minute, and in five weeks they've now got him to try it out full time - absolutely incredible!
