  1. i'm sticking this topic here in this forum so as not to clog up any other. reason: because this might merely be one of what i call my midnight madness thoughts and by morning what seemed like a brilliant flash of inspiration turns into some horror that resembles the previous nights leftovers and ultimately gets consigned to the bin of lost causes. so here we go: i have been lurking about and around, as ferret's are want to do, and sometimes frequent NAS answering queries and questions over there etc etc. it struck me that i seem to be answering the same questions over and over again; the same topics keep coming up. it's getting a little repetitive, which is not a problem in itself, but it has highlighted either a) that people generally don't know how to phrase a question to google and do research; and b)) information about ASDs and all that entails being autistic is mostly i) conflated either by mis-information or poor diagnostics from the medical profession and academia/academics in the field ii) produced by NTs also: someone on NAS raised the issue of where to get to advice etc. as there seems to be a bit of gap when it comes to how to get the right information if a) one is newly diagnosed; b)) an adult having being diagnosed, as this does not appear to be on the map/radar - i concur here as my personal journey has been something like that of gandalf in the archives of minas tirith... but i digress. so: your thoughts please on the viability of creating/compiling a dictionary of autism. this would include everything, even down to bitter chocolate etc. an include things like false cures etc. myths about autism etc. this dictionary would be compiled by us, we, autistics, and much like a dictionary, be A-Z, with definitions etc. eg. bitter chocolate - excellent source of fibre, reputed to have the effects of.... you catch my drift.... i hope so your thoughts? if any?
  2. Hey all! A while back I introduced myself and I also said I might have some questions regarding a translation of a book I'm doing (I'm Not Strange, I Have Autism by Ellen van Gelder). I do have some questions now, and they're probably quite easy to answer, because it's mainly what you call certain concepts in English. 1. What do you call someone who has ASD? And do you refer to it as 'someone with ASD' or 'someone with an ASD'? This book refers to them as 'fellow-autis' and 'ASD-ers'. 2. What do you call something that is kind of an obsession, but mainly just a very big hobby? Examples are watching animal skeletons, insects, veganism, etc. The Dutch word for it is a 'fiep'. 3. What do you call a kind of club thing where people with ASD gather to hang out? (Is there even a thing like that in the UK?) Thanks, guys!
  3. Hiya I've finally finished my book of short stories and poetry. It really has been a long time coming, but I felt now was the right time. I wrote all of it's content a few years ago whilst I was a teenager going through a really rough time with school/friends etc. as well as trying to get diagnosed and to top it off whilst going through/recovering from a nervous breakdown. I've decided to release it because I feel it would help other people to read it and know that they're not alone and that no matter how bad it is, it can turn out okay in the end - like it has done for me, although, believe me, I wouldn't have thought I could ever be okay! I'm really hopeful that this can help other people - I feel like reading something similar would have helped me to feel less alone in the world. Just so you know, I have Aspergers, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit Disorder and Scotopic Sensitivity. Here is a video I just did to go with the release of the book: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21SE5sGyLdE And here is where you can buy the book from: http://www.blurb.co.uk/bookstore/detail/3783673 Thanks so much for reading - and for your support on this forum whilst I was going through a hard time in school. Please share with anyone who you think this book might help - thank you *hugs* WillowHope
