  1. Hi there We're setting up an Eco-wellbeing and Activity break for adults with high functioning Autism and Asperger's in Cornwall, England and wondered if anyone who has high functioning Autism or Asperger's could help us out by completing a simple questionnaire on how you like spending your holidays? It would really help us to get your opinion and ensure we do things right. If you're interested in helping, can you please email us at coolofthewildretreat@gmail.com Many thanks! Natalie and Geoff

  3. Very Late Diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder): How seeking a diagnosis in adulthood can change your life by Philip Wylie. Read the review here. The reviewer is Jane Hatton, founder of Evenbreak. This is a job board aimed at disabled jobseekers; I used to look at it, but ultimately found it unsatisfactory as its search function persistently returned jobs that were not in the geographical areas I'd specified.
  4. Hi I have joined up as I need a bit of help with the assessment process for my brother. He's 27 and until recently was living independently but has just moved back in with my mother as he wasn't coping. We all realised he may have Aspergers about 2 years ago. This is where we are so far. We went to the GP who referred us for an initial assessment with a psychiatrist. They have referred him for a full assessment in London. However we have now waited a year and heard nothing. What do you recommend we do at this point? He is struggling and we think his support allowance may stop soon as the doctor is being awkward. My mum can't keep him at hers for long as it's a one bed flat. Are there any other living arrangements we could consider? We are in Kent. Thank you in advance Sarah Broadstairs, Kent
  5. Hi - I'm Chris - I'm 45 and I found out a couple of years ago that there is a very good chance I have Asperger's. I am still waiting for formal assessment, (2 years, now) and in that time my confidence has been very up and down. It's currently rock bottom. The situation I'm in is almost laughable, and a consequence of my utter uselessness at making proper choices for myself. On the one hand, it was wonderful, initially, to know that there was an alternative to my lifetime's default self assessment of 'tactless, stupid, self-important and self-centered'. But now the novelty of that revelation has worn off, and I feel utterly confused and trapped. Frustration and depression are again taking over, and I am compelled to seek advice/understanding from elsewhere. Sound familiar to anyone?
  6. I don't know if this is gonna sound silly or if anyone else has to deal with this, but basically I am really struggling, I am 28 years old and have three kids and the problem is I am in this routine of constantly going to my mums house when I should be at home cleaning and just generally getting on doing things grown ups do but the truth is I would rather be reading or on the computer at my mums. I have to come to realise that my mum and my parents house is a security blanket that I keep going back to and its an incredibly unhealthy habit and is definitely driving my husband mental. I just feel like I really struggle with all the demands of being an adult, like when my husband talks to me about work sometimes I just sit there waiting for an oppurtunity to walk awake cause it is stressing me out. I am also really bad at eating a healthy diet and exercising, I try to be good and it lasts for a week at most then I am back to my old faithful routine. There is other stuff as well, I am not formally diagnosed, hoping to look into this soon but after finding out my daughter is probably on the spectrum and doing a lot of research I am almost 99% sure I have aspergers. Any advice would be gratefully received. xx
  7. Hi. I'm 29 and have undiagnosed Asperger's. I'm very lucky in that I have a very lovely doctor who is very supportive. He referred me to the only place that does adult diagnoses in the area (the next county over and about 2 hours drive away). But the problem is that we needed the primary care trust to pay for it, and they turned down funding. The doctor said I could be self funded. I can't find out how much it's going to cost me though. Can anyone advise? Also, can anyone tell me if they know of any charities etc who might be able to help with the funding. I'm training to be a teacher, and was advised diagnoses is crucial, but I don't get much money training. Anyone else had any similar experiences?
