TheNeil Report post Posted November 10, 2006 Oh, and well done TN for taking us all in hand Don't worry, plenty of time for everything to go disasterously wrong. At least you'll all get to spend one final Christmas with your families before the juggernaut careens into the restaurant (which ever one we end up going to) and flattens us all

TheNeil Report post Posted January 2, 2007 Ok peeps, now that the festive season is over, it's time to put down the the wine glasses and the mince pies and pick up the train timetable/bus timetable/road map and figure out out we're all getting to... Newcastle on January 20th (which is a mere 18 days from now ) Now would also be a really good time for someone local to the fair metropolis to stick their hand up and offer to arrange a good meeting place and/or somewhere where we can all meet up (or, at the very least, offer some suggestions). brooke Report post Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) Right i was thinking everyone could meet at Greys Monument its right in the middle of Newcatle and if you cant find it just ask someone they will be able to point you in the right direction. You cant miss it. What time are people wanting to meet? Lets say 11.30 for the mo and as for where we are going there is a nice italian or a pizza express or there is china town or the gate complex has different places to eat too!!! I cant really book though unless i know how many are coming. So we could decide when we all meet up if its easier? Do we know numbers anyone? We will have to decide how we are going to recognise each other near the time too. Right well thats my bit done GREYS MONUMENT 11.30AM Edited January 4, 2007 by brooke

I'll be the one hiding behind a bloke who looks like a Serbian Arms Dealer!!! I dunno actually, in all seriousness, maybe we should post piccies of ourselves on here beforehand? It's a scary thought I know but we are going to see what each other looks like eventually! As for the meeting places, I don't mind where we go as long as our Aspie senses are taken into account. I've never been to Newcastle before so it'll be an awful lot of strange new things for me to deal with. Also, I'd really like to go for the quietest eating place out of the choices or the one with the biggest table they can shove in a corner. As long as I'm in a corner and I don't have anyone seated to the back of me I'll be alright but I can't deal with someone sitting behind me for some reason, it just freaks me out. Also the whole noises of people eating thing makes me itch just thinking about it, but I shall come armed with my Ipod so it should be alright. I know people will be reluctant to post piccies and things, perhaps we could email instead of putting them on the site, but it really will help me and probably the other Aspies who are coming as well. The whole fear of the unknown would be lessened if I had faces to look for instead of hoping that someone is familiar with Johnny Vegas enough to recognise his 'could-be' sister when at the Monument. Emily xxx I'm also from the Midlands Mel and Reuby, but my bro lives in Durham so I'm killing two birds with one stone by visiting him for a weekend as well as meeting up with the others. But I might be up for getting together in Birmingham or something a bit later in the year if you wanted to sort something out.

TheNeil Report post Posted January 4, 2007 Is Greys Monument the big round thingy with a big column in the middle? It's the big column thing with a statue at the top...that isn't Nelson's Column Just need to keep eyes open for signs pointing towards 'Grey's Monument' or 'Monument Square' And, just for you Emily, here's a pic Click Me, Click Me Suze, Flora and me were supposed to be coming up together but not heard from my two escorts for the day so kind of a situation at the moment. This is not helped by the fact that dame Flora's train (if I read the train timetable probably) means that us three won't be in Newcastle until at 12:30. Suffice to say, I'm hassling the pair of them so updates as and when I find out. Could be that everyone else goes on ahead and us three catch you all up (although that might involve complicated things like mobile phones)

Bagpuss Report post Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) Me too Bid Ah, that should be easy to spot. The thingy whosit I was thinking of has steps all around the base too, so probably not the right one, and last time i was in Newcastle it was draped in black and white....think there was some sort of Shearer fest going on. TN, we could always arrange the meet up for later, if that suits everyone better Edited January 4, 2007 by Bagpuss

TheNeil Report post Posted January 4, 2007 TN!! I clicked in keen anticipation that it was a piccie of you...and it's just some column!! Boho Technically it is a picture of me as I'm just out of shot...about 60 miles out of shot but, in cosmic terms, that's pretty close I don't do photos and even the nice lady at Boots photo counter was at a loss to explain why every single picture of me that's ever been taken seems to feature me being obscured by a hand, a thumb, a tree, a plane, a bird, weird localised 'fogging', Satanic burn marks, or the face of little Jimmy Osmond. I guess some of us just aren't photogenic but I'm sure that if you beg nicely, someone will bring a camera along on the 20th. As for the meeting time, I'll find out what Charlies Angels are doing and see how that affects when/who'll be there from the 'Leeds party'. Sadly this probably makes me either Bosley (sadly not Tom Bosley) or the third Angel (in which case I 'bagsie' Kate Jackson )
KarenT Report post Posted January 5, 2007 I'm still coming, just tell me what time and I'll be there. Chinese would be good, as long as there's not a match on (Chinatown is very close to St James' Park, and it gets busy when the footie's on) - anyone know the fixtures?! Otherwise I'm not fussed about where we go, as long as it's not MacDonalds (retch). Karen x
brooke Report post Posted January 5, 2007 Hi Well unfortuatley there is a home match on at 3pm so town will get pretty busy but as long as we can get out of town before it finishes then it shouldnt be too bad Im not too sure where might be a quite place for us to go maybe pizza express??? But im the same Emily i hate really loud places so hopefully we can find somewhere nice.

madmooch Report post Posted January 7, 2007 No idea really - I was waiting to see where everybody was located and then was thinking about coming up with somewhere that's easy for everyone to get to/wants to go to (a field in the middle of nowhere, for example, might be 'central' but it's hardly great fun). I would say H'gate but I know that it can be a bit of a trek from Newcastle and some of those other 'ghastly' places (only joking - Newcastle is a top place. Now that Sunderland on the other hand... ) Of course if anyone's got any suggestions they'd be appreciated especially as I have no idea about 'child friendly' places or any of that sort of thing If people want to PM me locations, ideas etc. (rather than make them 'public' for whatever reason) then feel free to Oi Whats wrong with Sunderland (mackem and proud of it) I can do Newcastle but dont know my way round very well Clare
Cat Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Newcastle can be a nightmare when there is a footie match everywhere is heaving Would this be a daft idea meet at the Monument and then take the Metro to Shields, it's a five minute journey - loads of eating places there and no match. TheNeil Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Newcastle can be a nightmare when there is a footie match everywhere is heaving Would this be a daft idea meet at the Monument and then take the Metro to Shields, it's a five minute journey - loads of eating places there and no match. Cat I had a check and Newcastle are playing West Ham but I figure that, being Newcastle, it'll still be a nightmare (I was just sure that it was going to be a 'small' club...like Man U or Chelsea ). Does anyone know Shields at all (is that North or South Shields BTW - I can never can remember which is which)? I'm figuring that you do Cat. I suppose if everyone is meeting up first at the monument then we can travel en masse. For me I'm easy either way, so I'll let you Geordie types battle it out and see what everyone else thinks. Bagpuss Report post Posted January 8, 2007 I'm happy with wherever is chosen.....here's some other possiblities......York (not too far from North East, and closer for those travelling from the south), go back to original Leeds idea, what about the Metro Centre, Durham.......
Cat Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Shields can be gotten to by taking the Metro at the Monument Station. There is a very lomg High Street full of eating places and there is a lovely beach but it's a bit cold for that. The Metro Centre is also ACE but you would need to meet at Newcastle Central Station to access that. Cat
badonkadonk Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Ooooooooooo, I know where the Metro Centre is! Well I don't actually know how to get there, but I've been there, I think!?! Is it the big shopping centre that turns into some kind of weird Victorian type town and has an indoor play area place? Maybe I just dreamt this but last time I went to see my bro we went to a big shopping centre and all was shopping centre-y until we turned a corner and everything went a bit weird looking. Also if I remember rightly I got a CD from one of the shops and got back to the car to find out there was no CD in it, even though it was one of those security tagged things which meant it hadn't been opened since packaging. RANDOM! Anyhoo, not that you needed to know any of that stuff, but I'm still ok meeting wherever, just as long as I know by the end of this week for definate so I can start getting my head around things. Just thought I would mention that I know where something is, or might know where something is. For me, 'might know' is an achievement Emily xxx

KarenT Report post Posted January 9, 2007 I'll be able to make it if we meet up in Newcastle and stay there, otherwise I can't come. Travelling on from there will be too much for me physically. So if the concensus is South Shields or Metrocentre or somewhere else other than city centre, sorry but that's me out. Would really love to be there though. TheNeil Report post Posted January 9, 2007 (edited) OK I'm going to set Friday as being 'decision day' so if everybody could state where they'd prefer to go, where they can't go, where they'd prefer not to go, whether they're coming etc. (including whether, like me, you'll go anywhere/do anything) then I can put some more big red text up. To get the ball rolling: I'll go anywhere and, unless Suze and Flora say differently (i.e. confirm whether they're travelling up with me - so far the pair of them have disappeared off the place the face of the planet) I can be there at pretty much any time after 11:00am. Also what does everyone think about swapping mobile no's beforehand? Those of us who will be at the mercy of the trains may be prone to 'unexpected delays'. Just a thought (and NO POSTING OF MOBILE NO'S HERE - We'd use PM's to do it). Edited January 9, 2007 by TheNeil
KarenT Report post Posted January 9, 2007 I'll agree to that. I'm afraid it's city centre or nothing for me, but I'm happy to accept that if I can't go, I can't go. Maybe if we organise another Newcastle meetup around fixtures I could fit in. I have no problem with sharing my mobile number by personal message, and can be in town by 11.30. Bagpuss Report post Posted January 9, 2007 (edited) Well DH and I can make anytime, anyplace, anywhere......hold on, wasn't that an advert once???? We'll be coming via car, so if you are planning a meet in Newcastle then heading to another town, we'd just drive straight to other town.......if that makes sense..... Happy to swap mobile numbers, but be warned, I'm a complete technophobe and never even realise it's my mobile ringing Forgot to add.....have we decided how we will recognise each other....may have missed it Edited January 9, 2007 by Bagpuss
TheNeil Report post Posted January 9, 2007 Forgot to add.....have we decided how we will recognise each other....may have missed it Nope that little 'issue' hasn't been discussed yet. At the moment I'd opt for simply looking for people who look lost and confused and seem to be muttering 'Well I think we agreed <insert place> at <insert time> and we're going on to <insert name of pretty much anywhere>' - that certainly describes me at the moment. TheNeil Report post Posted January 12, 2007 Are we doing this thing or what?! Karen x Well I don't know about anyone else but 11:30am at the Monument is fine by me (now that Suze isn't coming along and Flora seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet, I can get there that bit earlier). So Karen, because no-one else has really given any preference, we'll go with sticking in Newcastle and risking finding somewhere (surely it can't be that tough). badonkadonk Report post Posted January 13, 2007 Yes lets post a confirmation or summat so we know how many are doing this thing For the moment me and Bob are still making the trek oooooop North, but, Bob has a job interview on Tuesday and I'm currently waiting for a reply from my application for a job. I know, I know, I've kept it hush hush but I'm trying to wait and not jinx myself before I say anything about it. Anyhoo it could be that either one of us has to start work the Monday after the weekend and if that happens for me I defo won't be able to make it. I'd have to go shopping for clothes instead, and shoes, because I don't actually own anything other than pyjamas anymore This probably won't happen though as the application period for my job doesn't even end until the 19th and I'm sure Bob won't need that much prep time if he gets his job. But I thought I would mention it just in case I can't make it at the last minute. I will be sure to post with updates if I do get an interview as it's as close to the job that I've been trying to get people let me do for free for the past year AND it comes with a WAGE! OMG, I might have something more than 280 a month to live on See this is why I didn't say anything earlier, now I'm getting all excited again and jinxing myself. *zips mouth* Emily xxx
