Good News

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

Yesterday I took Auriel to visit a specialist residential AS school. He absolutely loved it, and I was very impressed and happy with things.

Next week he is going back to join in the school day and stay the night. The next day he will visit the AS specialist 6th form provision in the nearby town.

If next week's visit goes ok, the school have said he can have a place ...before Christmas!!!!

I still can't quite believe it all!

I will keep you posted ...

Many thanks for all your kind thoughts! >:D<<'>

Simon...I have never thanked you for 'finding' me on an American site and directing me here!

We could not have achieved any of this without this fantastic forum and its wonderful members! :tearful:

To any new members...keep fighting! In May my son didn't even have a statement, but with the invaluable advice and support of people on this forum we have got this far.

I am absolutely delighted for both you and Auriel.

You're hard work has paid off and you both deserve this.

If Auriel is happy then you will be too.

Well done!

Thanks again, everyone!

I think it has been a bit of a team achievement, because without the advice of friends like Helen and Nellie, the support of other 'member-friends' and the sheer generosity of spirit of all the members here...we would never have got this far!

You are all a great bunch :tearful:

Well, we got back on Thursday evening after Auriel's day-and-night visit to ******** *******.

I feel funny posting this after reading all the awful things that have happened since I've been away! :tearful:

The school said he did really well, mixing with the other pupils and joining in the classes. They were really pleased with him.

Auriel just loved it. He had a brilliant time! He has already started work on GCSE English, and he did some more stuff for his GCSE Art, and some GCSE Maths which he said was challenging (which is good, as his home tutor says he is a grade A pupil, so the school have obviously taken that in).

In the evening he went to the cinema with some of the guys from his residential unit, and rounded off the evening with a Donner Kebab!

Today the school is ringing to say which day next week he can start properly!

He has been full of things that happened during his visit, and is so excited...he wants to start on Monday!! The care staff were just lovely, and his particular care worker was such a nice guy. I met his Form Tutor, who is also his Maths tutor and his Art tutor...they are just the lovliest teachers you can imagine!

I just wish all our children could have this kind of specialist help and teaching :tearful:

Just to stop you all from hating me...when I came to pay for my B&B it turned out that they didn't accept cards, and I only had my credit card and not enough cash!! I ended up having to borrow petty cash from the 6th Form College that we visited on Thursday to pay my bill!!!!!! Oh, the shame!

I'm over the moon to hear your good news. I'm sure no one hates you, Auriel deserves this, he's been through a lot.

Don't forget the cash next time.

Really nice to hear some good news and how reassuring for the rest of us that if you push for what your child needs it can be achieved. Have a good weekend and fingers crossed that things continue to go well.

Thanks, Nellie and Tez!

I've just heard from the school that he will be going on Sunday evening, to start on Monday, which is just what he wanted. The LEA have been good and said the paperwork can follow him later.

I'd better get started with the name tapes!!

Gulp.....thats great, Bid! Suddenly, it feels like it has come around so quickly! I know how much of a slog this has been though. All credit to you!! B) Good that the LEA are being sensible, too!!

Good luck Auriel. We look forward to hearing your stories whenever you get the chance. You will have so much more to write about for your book now too!

Jester,....um,...the batcave has a familiar face back again!! Pop by for a cuppa?! :bat:

I do know how very, very fortunate we are...but leaving Auriel at his new school yesterday evening was one of the hardest things I have ever done :tearful:

But I know that by going there he has got his future back :)

Thank you so much again,
