Hi i know this subject as been brought up before.My son kieran who is 21 in may will not get washed or changed.He believes that you only get washed and changed if you go out and seeing he doesnt he wont We have tried insulting him,bribing him but he just doesnt seem to care but it is getting really bad he smells like something as died but it doesnt bother him,his bedroom is a no go area bless him,but how do i get it into him, he s going to end up with a bad skin condition he as acne as it is.ideas greatly recieved they be charging him for excess emissions damaging the ozone layer soon lol

sorry cant help my dd7 will wash change when she cames in from school she copys her 10 year old brother then my other son comes home at 5 she will do the same again then my other son comes home at 6 she dose the same again i think she thinks thats what you are sepose to do i was told thats the way she gets buy copying what other people do all the best hope you get it sored soon all the best jill

This must be really difficult, lynn, it's not as if, at 21, you can lift him up and put him in the bath. :huh:

 

Will he respond to rules and routines?? Maybe if you introduced a new rule that no dinner will be served until he is washed and changed then maybe he could get into the habit of doing it because it is a daily routine? Is it that he doesn't like the actual feeling of washing and taking his clothes off? I know that once my son has clothes on, it's almost impossible to get them off of him or change him until it is bedtime, because he has become used to the feel of having them on and taking them off makes him feel different.

Would a written or picture timetable help, breaking down what he needs to do into simple steps, with maybe a reward when dressing/undressing/washing, etc has been completed?
