DLA reclaiming again

Recommended Posts

I have had DLA for two years for my son and now have to reclaim again. I have kept all I said the last time on my computer, there has only been a few changes since last time, Do you think I could make changes and reprint or will the descision maker compare the last claim just see this?

No, I'd reuse it! Well done you, we claimed it 2 years ago and didn't know then that it's a good idea to keep a copy so guess who is struggling through the full 40 pages again without notes! :wallbash::rolleyes:

We reclaimed at the beggining of the year and used everything again and more. The lady i had round even put things on the form like he needs extra help and support when visiting the cinema. This was something that wasn't even suggested the first time round but this lady put it all down. We also made a list and mentioned everyone he is under for additional help e.g the advisory teacher,CAMHS, his IEPs and extra tuition after school plus the special needs dentist and special provisions made with the GP so he sees the same one each time.

Even though you're not sure if it is beneficial still put it down - we did.

I put my re-claim in the post yesterday

:groupwave::groupwave:

Best part of a weeks work as 5 years has gone by since I made the last one so quite a few changes needed. I too no longer had a copy of the last one as it was on the hard disk of my old computer which died and for some reason, I didn't seem to have a hard copy - maybe I lent it to someone? Anyway, I rang up the DLA people and they sent me a photocopy of the last form free of charge. It took a few weeks to come through but if you've got time to wait for it 'aro' then give them a call. It will save on brain power, if not on work as you'll still have to type it/ write it all out again!

They're such a relief when they're finished, aren't they? :lol:

Ohf!

How long is it before you have to reclaim, 2 years or 5 years? I started getting DLA in April 2005, and I can't see anywhere in the letters about when I would have to reapply. Luckily I have kept a copy of all the additional notes I wrote which I added to the claim forms. I'm a bit worried that if I have to apply again, J might not get anything as he seems to have become a lot more able - though I'm sure compared to NT children he is very different.

MichelleW,

Your letter from the DLA telling you how much your child has been awarded will have the period on it that it will be paid till. It could be anything, M's first one was for 18 months, this time it is for 3 years. They send out the renewal six months before it is due to expire.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I've just found it! I've got it till end of May 2008, so that's just over 3 years. At least I can relax for another year - the thought of having to fill the forms in again is a daunting one - even with copies of the old notes. I wouldn't be suprised if I'm having to fill in a set for my youngest at the same time - I've just received his initial paediatric report - looks like ASD to me but he is being referred to a specialist in autism. Does anyone know if there is a minimum age for claiming DLA? If I remember correctly Mobility isn't awarded until the age of 5.

I'm lost in admiration at all these organised people. :notworthy: I did it from scratch each time, & I'm feeling really stupid now. :whistle:

Thanks for all your replies, I am just going to get down to it and make a few alterations as nothing really has changed that much. I am still not looking forward to it though.
