Canopus Report post Posted July 20, 2007 After finding out about AS a few years ago, I started to wonder exactly when AS was first mentioned on the internet. It is quite difficult to track down early examples of websites because they are continually updated and sometimes entire websites are removed from the internet. There is a possibility that the earliest mentions of AS could have been on USENET rather than on websites. If you don't know what USENET is, it is a collection of discussion forums covering a diverse range of subjects that was set up it 1981. It used to be popular during the 1980s and 90s and reached its peak in Britain around 1997 before going into a slow decline as people moved over to web based discussion forums like this one. USENET still exists but only a handful of forums are still active today. The archive of USENET messages dating back to the early 1980s can be searched using Google. After performing a few searches I uncovered the following: 24th December 1991 30th December 1991 5th June 1992 7th August 1992 14th December 1992 20th January 1993 8th March 1993 12th March 1993 18th March 1993 19th March 1993 24th March 1993 9th June 1993 27th June 1993 15th July 1993 27th August 1993 20th September 1993 25th September 1993 27th September 1993 27th September 1993 14th October 1993 15th October 1993
