The first mention of AS on the internet

Recommended Posts

After finding out about AS a few years ago, I started to wonder exactly when AS was first mentioned on the internet. It is quite difficult to track down early examples of websites because they are continually updated and sometimes entire websites are removed from the internet. There is a possibility that the earliest mentions of AS could have been on USENET rather than on websites. If you don't know what USENET is, it is a collection of discussion forums covering a diverse range of subjects that was set up it 1981. It used to be popular during the 1980s and 90s and reached its peak in Britain around 1997 before going into a slow decline as people moved over to web based discussion forums like this one. USENET still exists but only a handful of forums are still active today. The archive of USENET messages dating back to the early 1980s can be searched using Google. After performing a few searches I uncovered the following:

24th December 1991

30th December 1991
