Having to laugh...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Had one of those 'step back and look at my life moments today' and it made me laugh.

DS1 is 7 diagnosed ASD. DS2 is 4,we have faced facts he is likely to have a simular diagnosis. He saw his pead again yesterday who asked us if we were prepared for another autism diagnosis if that is the outcome at CDAC. We know now it seems likely.

Today we went to the zoo. I sat the kids in the car and as we drove off, I looked in my rear view mirror to check on them. I had to laugh, DS1 is sitting reading the bible, not a childrens one, the actual thing! He can only read about 20 words so not sure what he is managing to read. And there is DS2 sat staring into space wearing a purple buzz lightyear foam hat!

I actually felt really happy with my life and my kids at that moment. Ok so it's not what others generally experience but I wouldn't trade my kids for 'normal' ones. They may be hard work but they are so interesting.

Anyone else get these moments when life seems so bizarre that you actually feel happy with it?

Hi

Yup, can relate to what you're saying.

As hard as things are sometimes, there are lots of moments like that. I think Robert is a truly intriguing and loveable little character. Adults/specialists/teachers/etc have all said that he's a little character and that that shines through even his worst traits (he can be very hostile, defiant, aggressive, etc) - so good to know that others see the same!

Caroline.

This is something I can relate to. My DS has made me laugh out loud so many times I've lost count. Lately he has taken to walking around in just his underwear with a small bowling ball stuffed down the front. No idea why. He just likes it!

You made me smile because I totally relate. LOL at the bible episode, that is something my son would do too ha ha. They are amazing individuals.

If people knew how different our life is they wouldn't believe it.

My son was throwing his rubber duck down the stairs earlier this morning and I asked him to 'stop throwing the duck down the stairs'. So he turned around and grabbed his train and threw that down the stairs instead :o:lol:
