Lucas Report post Posted September 6, 2007 All my personal difficulties with langauge revolve around the way in which other people speak. Nearly everything that is said to me works on the assumption that I will know the meaning. I know the meaning of words individually and how they alter the meaning of each other depending on what order they are presented, so I can quickly work out the sum meaning of the structure of a sentence. What I can not do is work out what meaning other people have glued over the actual meaning. Most obvious example I've spoken of before is my mom saying "Don't let it rain". I absolutely understand perfectly what this means, I just don't understand what she means by it. I can't read minds. I'm supposed to remember that this means I'm supposed to stop something outdoors from getting wet, usually by bringing it indoors. But this conflicts with the actual meaning of what is said. It isn't even proper langauge my mom uses: it's technically code. Code and langauge aren't always the same thing.
