UNDERSTANDING SCHOOL ACTION PLUS

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am new to the forums and wrote a bit in the help section,

but felt this might do better here.........

basically, DS was taken to a higher level of school action by the

senco at his new senior school?

But today while going through paperwork, I found he was

on school action plus at his primary school.....

so the confusion is,,,,,,,,, how do these levels go up?

is there a teiring system?

I have tried to look at the help topics, but its all too

confusing for my little brain!

any comments that help would be gladly welcome

far x

hi, I May be wrong, but dont think there are levels, just school action plus is when other outside agencies are brought in as the school alone cannot deal with the child s difficulties

eg occupational therapy, physio

and school gets money to do this as a result of your child being on school action plus

SA and SA+ are defined in the SEN Code of Practice (available on internet). The school/LEA may have their own levels within these (though I've not heard of that before), but it wouldn't count for anything legally. LEAs sometimes have their own banding system which is purely for financial/statistical purposes.

Also, as the Government is fond of saying - children can go DOWN the levels as well as UP. So he may have been SA, then SA+, then SA again (often happens if things calm down and outside professionals are no longer involved) at primary, and then back up to SA+ after joining secondary, when problems got worse.

thank you all, I got confused as the new senco said DS was going onto SA+

needed to find out why they didnt act on this before!

thank you for the links, i will look after tea....! Late for mine and DH tonight, as DS had a few moments

Yes i agree with whats previously been said its well as far as i know SA .... SA+...... then possible statement although they can go down the stages too which if the school are doing everything as detailed on his IEP they should really be achieving their targets as these should be realistic targets in the first place    hope this helps but there is almost certainly someone who knows the system better who will give you advice.
