Hello everybody.

My name's Jim (obvious one), Im 43. Discovered Sleep epilepsy eight years ago (My whole life I thought the Szs were just wierd dreams !!).

I went to check on my Epilepsy two months ago, and was diagnosed with Tuberous Sklerosis (TSC): Diagnosed in name, but with no details. In the last month I have discovered that my epilepsy comes from TSC, and that TSC sufferers often have a form of Autism. I started reasding about Asperger's syndrome and WOW I thought "That's me !!!"

I could also finish the quartet off by adding that I also have Celiac.

I started off thinking I was borderline Asperger, but after two weeks of reading, I think it might be a bit more than that !

With these four illnesses(?) I have finally discovered what has made me a bit different from other people all these years. What is so brilliant is that things a couldnt understand and thought were bad (like some of my reactions and feeling in social situations) are now fully understandable and I now view them more positive !! I feel really happy, because I am still the person I always was, but now I can explain what I am.

One of my "things" is cycling. I love cycling for hours on end. It used to be running. As a student I would run the same mile long circuit round and round and round... Now I know why !! But I wont change it, because it keeps me fit and makes me happy !! Alternatively, I have discovered problems between me and my girlfriend that I have solve by inventing routines, by standardising things, then the problem dissapears !! So it isnt all bad,and what is bad, I now have the power to change !

Am I rambling on a bit?? Anyway, Im just starting on this journey. I love the forum, lots of useful info here.

Hi, I am mum to a 6 year old boy who has autism. He is non verbal with challenging behaviour. He attends a special school, and is unable to share transport with other children due to his behaviour, so as to have individual transport.

Can't believe i've been here for two weeks & never even introduced myself  .....anyway here goes...lol

My name is Caroline (another obvious one lol) & i have two children, Hayden & Sophie.

Hayden has ADHD, ASD, poor fine motor co-ordination & special needs plus very poor self esteem issues. He was diagnosed in 2001 & has seen his paed since his diagnosis. Hayden presents extremely challenging behaviour on a daily basis even though he is on medication day & night it was never i route i wanted to go down. We have tried the natural remedies, E Q oils, Omega 3 fish oils but to no avail. The bigger & older he's got the more difficult it has become to manage his behaviour. Hayden has no sense of danger road wise & people wise! lacks social skills & needs a lot of support in school as well as at home. He is lovely boy despite his difficulties & has the ability to make people laugh where ever he goes!

Hello all, thought I better re-introduce myself as many of you will not know me. Joined the forum ages ago and used to be quite active here but dropped out for a long time due to major family commitments and a long period struggling with clinical depression. I've come crawling back to get some advice on Martin's education he's just moved from a small village school of 100 pupils to a major boy's high school of thousands of pupils and his AS is not going un-noticed so to speak. Kids he's fine with, teachers - that's where the problem starts :D

It's all in the Education thread so I'll not repeat it here.

Personally some of you may remember we took on the care of my nephew who was 16 months at the time which caused a lot of disruption with Martin but that's all in the past now. The nephew is still with us and now almost 4 years old, we also took on the care of his little brother in January of this year (then 7 months old - that's how long it takes to go through the court process) and he's now 17 months old and settled in well too. The parents get unsupervised access once a week.

The rest of the family are fine - Martin's twin has also gone to high school and she is already showing excellent Artistic traits. The eldest is in his last year in sixth form and has just been accepted onto a Year in Industry Scheme so he can take a gap year working in engineering before he goes to Uni and the middle one (the 14-year-old) is preparing to do GCSEs and hoping to become a Genetic Scientist!

Hubbs is still doing the same job, as am I and I'm struggling daily with my stupid Lupus - now on Opium-based tablets which are interesting if I take too many :partytime:

So....that's Daisy's life in a nutshell and that's why I have spent some time away from the boards. Good to see you all again :groupwave:

HI

there Id like to introduce myself to your forum, Im a mum and my son who is now 20, is going through the process of been dignosed with aspergers.

although it was suspected from the age of seven and we were only told when my son james was 13, I cant say my life has been easy with my son but I

have struggled to get support and help for some years. The realisation that James may have aspergers has been very frightening for him, and there doesnt

seem to be anywhere were we can go for support. Im trying to help James be more independent and self relient although its hard to get him motivated

most the time.

thanks for listening angie

Hello everyone.

I'm mum to a 17-year-old lad who probably doesn't have AS, but has enough 'symptoms' to make me wonder ... or maybe he's just a typical teenager! Anyway, will be posting more details in a separate thread. This looks like a really friendly forum!

Hi everyone, I thought it was about time I introduced myself (I've lurked for a while and have to say that this is a great forum).

I'm Maz, aged 37, married, mother of 5year old Drew, not yet diagnosed but suspected Asperger's. He has had various assessments since the age of 3 when he was having difficulty socialising at Nursery. It all came to a head when he started school but his teacher and the school are fantastic, they are really helping him through his difiiculties. He has his first proper assessment for ASD (at the request of the school) in August but the consultant does not yet want to give a firm dignosis. He displays are lot of traits/charachteristics butothers simply don't apply. Next on the cards is speech/language assessment and the they'll see him again in Jan '08.

I've picked up loads of advice in the last few months and I look forward to chatting to you some more.

hi all

i have been lurking for a week or so, i found this site while looking on the net for aspergers advice.

i dont have any children but my husband has aspergers. we are both 22 and have known one another since we were small. we have been in a relationship for 3 years and have just got married and moved in toghter.

growing up i always knew he was a little differnent from the other children in school but i didnt find out why untill we started dating, his mum took me aside and told me that i had my work cut out for me and that if i was not 100% up for the challedge i should leave now. this shocked me and i did a little research in to aspergers then, but his symptoms seemed so slight that i didnt even consider leaving him.

what i relise now is that living at our parents homes ment that i only saw 30% of the story.

due to a job offer we moved into our first place 300 miles from either of our familys.

now i see how aspergers effects him day to day, dont get me wrong i love him to bits and i dont feel any differntly about him. but dealing with this so much more harder than i belived.

having lost our support net of our familys just round the corner things are starting to pile down on me.

ohhhhhh right sorry for unloading and thanks for reading my post.

little x
