Mumble Report post Posted April 13, 2008 Awwww, Put your wellies on & go for a splash. Well it stopped raining so I put my boots on and went for a walk. As soon as I'd got just too far to turn back, it thundered and bucketed it down again - so I got very very soggy. Just got back, and the sun has come out again Well I guess I can tick off "Training in adverse weather conditions" from my training schedule.

smiley Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Oh no Mumble! Can you get computer to somewhere like PC world - they might be able to save some of it???
baddad Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Hi mumble - first thing(and it is a biggy so please don't think I'm being glib) - Don't Panic... Don't do anything like reformatting the hard drive or reinstalling windows or anything like that... A while back you were going to buy a portable hard drive... did you do that, and did you copy all of the work onto that? If so, you've still got it. It doesn't have to be your computer that the portable connects to... While the PC might appear dead, that doesn't necessarily mean the HD is corrupt or the files on it... it could be the power supply, or the registry or a thousand other things... Spend today finding a PC 'technician' (the big chain mentioned would probably do at a pinch, but if you know someone personally you've dealt with in the past that's even better) Whatever you do, don't let THEM reformat or reinstall the HD, or let them reinstall from the 'recovery disc' you (probably) got with the PC... Tell them you have to get your work files off the hard disc, and if they say they can't do that get a second (and third) opinion... I really hope you remember somewhere where you've backed everything up (a cd, floppies, pen drive?), but even if you haven't chances are your data is recoverable... Take your time - write off this weekend and all of next week if you have to to find a 'fix', 'cos 7 days might seem hard to lose but it's a lot better than 4 years..
