bid Report post Posted February 2, 2008 (edited) Why don't you visit the school before you make up your mind? If you go with an open mind, you may be pleased with what specialist support it can offer. Bid Edited February 2, 2008 by bid
Clare63 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 (edited) It might just be worth having a look at the school, at least then you would be able to make a case if you really felt it was unsuitable and the reasons why. Surely he has to be assessed anyway for them to be able to refer him to such a school ? I appreciate its a difficult time, we are going through simular, but I intend to have a look at everything that on offer just in case I am missing something. Good luck OCG <'> Clare x x x Edited February 2, 2008 by Clare63
Flora Report post Posted February 2, 2008 OCG The school would have to assess him when he was there in order to deliver therapy. It would be worth having a look. flora
tsmom Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I can only talk for myself and i understand that residential is the best for some children, but i would hate the idea of T been sent away i know it would be the worst thing for all of us. Saying there is no provision is not good enough If he has not been assessed how can anyone say that his need cant be meet?they havent looked at his needs. I belive every child should be able to have their needs meet and live at home in a safe stable family if the child and family feel thats the best thing for the family as a whole. I would look and make note good and bad that way if you/he dont feel happy you have jusified reasons for saying no,i think if you dont look they powers that be will say you didnt listen
madme Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Hi I think that the others are right. You do need to see the school and what they offer before you can say that its not appropriate. We had to do that ourselves in order to be able to show why it wasn't appropriate. With a couple of schools we managed to meet the senco and they agreed that they were not able to meet our son's needs- that put the LEA in a difficult position! You may be surprised and feel that they can help him. If not, have you looked around at what is available locally? Get the costings- is it a joint LEA /SS placement? The costs may be high and you may be able to find something local that it cheaper.
