I have 2 "official" and one I think he should have been dx but consultant copped out by dx'ing him with Dyspraxia and pragmatic language disorder, and opted for traits. He is my exentric professor

can i ask also how many are boys and how many are girls? sorry but its just that i found our consultant and team were more surprised by jasmine as she wasnt so obvious, it took one of the team (who is a specialist in asd and deals with a lot of girls) to watch jasmines ados video to spot her.

Girls often do present differently to boys. A lot of people feel that the diagnostic criteria focus more on the traits that boys typically show, and that is why girls are less commonly diagnosed.

Hi - my eldest son has a dx of Aspergers, although like Darky's he was dx with dyspraxia, semantic pragmatic disroder and traits for a long while. My youngest son has not been dx as yet but is going through the process, all involved are saying ADHD but as he gets older I am seeing more stuff I identify as being ASD so we have to wait and see on that one.

Luv Witsend.

Hi, we've got three boys. The oldest two have official dx of Asperger's for the eldest and ASD for the middle one. The youngest has been an ADHD suspect for some time.

Life gets a bit busy sometimes... anarchic is another word I'd use... sometimes don't even get the chance to post so today's a lucky day!

My son has ASD. My daughter is 20 months and currently looks to be developing "neurotypically" but time will tell...

Can I ask, did the diagnosis affect anyone's decision to have more children? We are thinking very seriously about having a third child, and had James not been autistic I'd probably already be pregnant. But my worries are holding us back. I know what the geneticist will say, so that won't help me.... What swayed you one way or the other?

I am in the same boat, my son has ASD, my husbands is probably AS and so is FIL, so the chances of having another child on the spectrum are quite high. I don't know if I'd be able to cope with another ASD child...Look forward to hearing what other people experiences are.

Our eldest two children are on the Spectrum, both boys 8 and 10.

Your youngest two are NT (4 and 6).

For our eldest having a brother on the spectrum has been a godsend. He finds it incredibly hard to make friends and suffers from low self-esteem as a result, but having a ready-made friend who is on his wavelength a lot of the time makes life far better for him than it might have been otherwise. It seemed easier to get help for DS2 when DS1 was already in the system.

I can't pretend everything has been plain sailing but out family seems to work somehow!

My son has a diagnosis - he got the diagnosis after breaking down in his late teens. The breakdown occured as a result of his struggle with aspergers.

My daughter is extremely shy- not social - not well co-ordinated. Her shyness limits her life options.

I am like my son and daughter - I had a course today - it was hard coping with the social aspect of it. I took a whole clonazapam to help alleviate my anxiety - of course they have to do round the room introductions and we are expected to talk - nightmare. I need to learn to keep my mouth shut to stop the rubbish coming out. I can't express my thoughts in certain situations. I think aspergers is a family trait.

Son 12 dx Aspergers, Dyspraxia and ADHD. Daughter 7 dx Aspergers. I think hubbie is Aspergers. Hubbie's cousin has a child with Aspergers and another cousin has a son with ADHd- both fraternal side. On his mum's side one cousin has a son with Dyspraxia. In my family I think I may have Aspergers and definately dyspraxia. My dad's brother who died before age 40 was definately on the spectrum but no diagnosis although was know to have dyslexia. On my mum's side one of my cousin's would have qualified for ADHD diagnosis- his time in the army saved him as he was on a path to prison despite all his siblings being conformist uni grads.

We wanted more children but are scared of the genes!

Hi

I have one son diagnosed PDA (9yrs old) and one son (almost 3) diagnosed ASD this week. There are others on my side with ASD and on both with related disorders, and there are close relatives who I suspect are but not diagnosed!

My oldest DS has a dual DX of ADHD and ASD, DD is NT but I'm not sure that my youngest DS is. He presents with a fair few AS traits but is nowhere near the nightmare his older brother is, maybe because the oldest also has ADHD. I'm unsure at this stage whether to have him assessed. ASD definately runs in my side of the family there are a fair few Aspies DX and not DX.

My eldest son is 7 and diagnosed as ASD (high functioning Autism), my youngest son is 3 and is diagnosed with severe expressive and receptive speech disorder, motor planning disorder i.e. dyspraxia, attention dissorder, but not yet showing all the classic signs of ASD.

After having my first one, I thought if I can cope with one, I can cope with two on the spectra. I thought it unlikely that my second one would be on the spectra. In reality, being a single parent and working makes it tough, but I wouldn't be without either of them. I don't have any NT children, so ASD is all I know!
