baddad Report post Posted March 10, 2008 ??? Do you mean that the whole thing is rotated, or just that the 'taskbar' is now vertical instead of running along the bottom of the screen? If it's that, you can just 'pull' it back into position by the edges... If it' the whole desktop, it's possible he's gone into the 'display' settings and changed the settings to something odd(?) If you look in the bottom r/h corner (or wherever that would be now in your topsy turvy version) you may see a little icon with a monitor on it, or the name of your video card... If you can, you could try right clicking on it which will offer you some layout options. Try 1024x768... If that DOESN't sort it, just wait and the computer will switch back to where it was after about 30 seconds, so you shouldn't actually make things any worse... If you haven't got a taskbar icon try right clicking on the desktop then going into 'properties' and 'settings'... Failing that, if you've got any version of windows from XP on you could try 'system restore' to go back to yesterdays settings (or whenever windows last autosaved them). Access via START>PROGRAMMES>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE. It'll 'walk' you through the process from there. Only go back as far as the last point you know it was okay... the further you wind back the more chances of finding other stuff (upgraded programmes etc) becoming troublesome. There could be a much simpler explanation I haven't thought of, so wait and see if anyone else comes up with anything first! L&P BD
Mumble Report post Posted March 10, 2008 There could be a much simpler explanation I haven't thought of, so wait and see if anyone else comes up with anything first! Are you sure he hasn't physically turned the monitor 90 degrees?

It certainly sounds (as Baddad says) like your son has managed to rotate teh desktop - some new screens support having the screen in "portrait" mode rather than the familiar "landscape" (i.e. TV-like) mode. However, when it's in the wrong mode it's very difficult to use the mouse as up goes sideways... so here's how to reset the screen using the keyboard! Hold down the Windows key and press R In the box type DESK.CPL and press Enter Press the TAB key 5 times until there is a dotted line around the word "Themes" Use the RIGHT ARROW key until the SETTINGS tab is selected Hold down the ALT key and press V Now this is where I have to guess... you've probably got the GENERAL tab selected - press TAB until there's a dotted line around the word GENERAL There should be a tab called ROTATION (hopefully), use the RIGHT ARROW key until you've selected that, then use the TAB key to highlight the section you want to change - it's probably a radio button which says something like "Normal" and the press ENTER. Hopefully that'll get you back to where you should be... Phil

Bambi Report post Posted March 13, 2008 Sorry only just seen this and i had to reply, theres me thinking only T did this! T does this all the while and i still dont know how he does it, but i sure know how to fix it! Right click anywhere, the mouse does not work properly while its like this by the way and it can take a while to get the hang of it. Then go to graphic options then click rotation option its at the bottom of list, im guessing it will be on some number of degrees (i.e 90 or 180 degrees) u need to click on normal, the top option and its all ok again Bambi x
David Matthew Baker Report post Posted March 13, 2008 Sounds like a few of you could do with creating a different account for your children to use. That way you could lock down the computers so they can't change any of the settings. If they've discovered control panel who knows what they could do. You can also stop them been able to access the graphics cards properties too. Schools and work places tend to have done this. It annoyed me earlier today as someone had somehow lowered the resolution on one of the schools PCs so that it looked awful. Everything was big and easy to read by I'm used to resolutions at least of the order of by 1024 not of by 800. Hope you manage to get sorted.
