witsend Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Hi all - sorry not been around much at all lately - have been feeling a bit low and like tons of things ganging up on me for my attention, haven't had much time or energy to post Did just want to ask is there a cut off date for re applying for DLA. Eldest sons will run out in July and re applying is one of the many things I can't face doing right now, but they have sent me 2 reminders already so I'm feeling a bit panicky about it, does any one know how far in advance you need to make the re application? Cheers Luv Witsend.

justamum Report post Posted March 30, 2008 I believe there is if you want the claim to be continuous, certainly they have 45 working days to make a decision. Take a trip/phone call to your welfare officer or the citizen advice bureau and ask them to help you fill the form in as due to circumstance it's too much for you at present. Cheers Luv Witsend. I was finding it difficult to fill in my DLA form. The date my DLA is due to end is June. If they don't get the form in time then they will stop the DLA. However they do backdate the DLA to when you do get the form in its just that they have to stop it if they haven't processed it by then. I received several reminders too - the first back in January when I had only had the form about 2 weeks. I rang them and they said they simply wanted to make sure we get the forms in as soon as possible because it takes them about 10 weeks to process the form once they get it and they try and send it out early and get it back early to avoid any of us being cut off before they have processed it. Bear in mind that I think Carers Allowance will also stop and have to be reclaimed if DLA not awarded by the time DLA runs out. I would do what you can to get the form in. That can be something you will feel good about when done. And remember to keep a photocopy of it for the next time as it makes completing it again easier (not easy by any means but at least a bit easier). Good luck. Kathryn Report post Posted March 30, 2008 As Kate said, they need time to process the form (and it takes time to fill in!) so they send it well in advance of the deadline. I think I was a bit slow sending in L's renewal as I put off the horrible task for as long as I could. You've still got time witsend, so don't panic too much. I do sympathise - it's not a pleasant job, and depressing to have the task looming over you. Try doing just a couple of pages a day, maybe? K x
Bagpuss Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Witsend <'> Our youngest's dd renewal pack has just dropped through our door last week. Not looking forward to it. I try to do a little bit each day, and spread it out over a couple of weeks. Photocopy it before you send it......will prove helpful next time. Take care. Kazzen161 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 I've not sent T's in til about 4 weeks before it is due for renewal, for various reasons, and it was sorted in time, but they did not ask for more information which would have delayed it.
