Assessments for Statement - Who does this involve?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone

My 3yr old is in the process of having assessments done for the LEA to decide whether a statement needs to be issued. So far I've received a report from SALT and I attended nursery last week to meet with the Educational Psychologist who was there to assess DS.

Does anyone know who else needs to carry out assessments? The reason I'm asking is because since his dx in July last year he's only seen the Paed and Clinical Psychologist once. We've still waiting for OT appointment to arrive!! I have concerns about sensory issues but this has never been assessed. So I'm sort of wondering how ALL of DS needs can be known if only a couple of assessments are carried out. Does this make sense?

DS has a dx of autism and attends a specialist nursery on an assessment place. Nursery, SALT and Ed Psyc have all said that a statement will definitely be issued and all reccommend a specialist provision to meet his needs.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hi, in my sons case assesments were done by Specialist Avisory Teacher for Autistic spectrum disorders, SALT, ed pshycologist and a report from paediatrician. Also my parental evidence.

The paediatrician has only ever seen my son twice and he was the one who gave dx. So a report from him was sent confirming dx and I think his other two reports on ds were submitted.

My son saw a clinical psycologist once but his report was not included nor did he have to assess ds again.

I am only at proposed statment stage myself but on this it only states those people.

Ds spent time at a child development centre before dx and as far as I know no evidence was required from them, perhaps due to dx.

Nursery also had input but I think they just used evidence gained by ed psyc and specialist teacher that they quoted in reports.

Hope this has been some help?

Put all of your conserns in your parental evidence, You know your child best and all the other people may be proffesionals and very nice but they only see your child for short assesments. You see all of your childs difficulties.

Good luck
