Mumble Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Can anyone tell me how to re-order (as in change the order the songs play in) the tracks on my MP3 player? I took all the tracks off various CDs, some are whole albums, some are just songs I like, but it's put them all on the MP3 player (it's a cheap one, not an ipod or anything) in alphabetical order by artist, then by song title (not good when I have several that are 'various artists' so they're all mixed up). What I really want is to be able to re-order them so I have various 'types' together, so that, for instance, I can play the chill-out classical tracks I've just put on all together without having to scroll through 250ish tracks for each song - I want to be able to play 'hands free' (as in it plays the tracks I want in the order I want) for at least an hour if that's possible
baddad Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Hi mumble - it depends on the player you've bought, but most have options for playing in sequence, in various 'shuffle' modes or by folder. If you connect the player back up to your pc and arrange different folders for different 'styles' you'll effectively have x amount of compilation 'albums' instead of one huge list of tracks. You can then browse to a specific album and play that right through...
Mumble Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks BD - it has various play modes, so I can repeat one track (very AS friendly ) or repeat a series of tracks in a row of any length I want (i.e. 47 - 82), but I can't get the tracks in any order to start with - there aren't any folders (I know what you mean because my sister's more expensive player does this) it just has all the tracks one after the other (very annoying, because one of my favourite tacks is at number 246, so I have to press the next track button 245 times to get to it...) I think the problem might be because it's a cheap version and I think also I've got my windows media player set up wrong (or else I have very strange music tastes... ) because a lot of the tracks come up as unknown track or unknown artist and of course it's put all of those together (in an order I haven't yet fathomed) with no hope of me knowing what they are to separate them if I found a way to choose my own order. Mumble Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Here's my techie advice. 1. Find a rich person 2. Be nice to them 3. Ask them for an expensive MP3 for christmas And before you ask, I'm not rich  Very funny Thanks for making me laugh, but it hurts, so I'll stop I tried a version of your plan; I asked Santa for one, but my Mum told me the elves don't have the parts to make ipods.... How about I give you the (possible) lottery numbers for Saturday (I know which ones are as likely to come up as the Saturday numbers) and be nice to you? I've actually found a way to do what I want but it's taking rather a long time and even though I'm an Aspie and supposed to like repetitive ordering tasks, I got bored - by renaming each track individually in the order I want with a prefix of AA, AB, AC ... BA, BB, BC .... all the way to ZX, ZY, ZZ (although I don't have that many tracks), they play in a selected order and then I can select the number group I want... My other option is just to broaden my music tasks and listen to whatever it wants me to listen to.
pearl Report post Posted November 13, 2008 I actually listen to my CD's in alphabetical order - it takes me over a year to get through them Currently on Dido

Mumble Report post Posted November 13, 2008 That explains quite a lot! I dunno, there was me thinking, 'oh good, Mossgrove has replied, there'll be some sensible advice that might help me solve my problem'... Pearl, the reason you haven't got far through your collection is that LPs don't work too well in CD players - you have to wash them several times first (on a hot wash - not very environmentally friendly) to shrink them enough to fit the player. It is, I hear, one of the many perils of being old.
pearl Report post Posted November 13, 2008 That explains quite a lot! What, the alphabeticalness or the Didoness? Or both? Pearl, the reason you haven't got far through your collection is that LPs don't work too well in CD players - you have to wash them several times first (on a hot wash - not very environmentally friendly) to shrink them enough to fit the player. It is, I hear, one of the many perils of being old. I'd remove you from my christmas list .... if I could find where I put it ...

NobbyNobbs Report post Posted November 20, 2008 when you program in details for each track on the computer (usually done automatically but there is a manual option) you can type in a track number, it'll then play in the order you set. long process but handy for the obsessive
