Canopus Report post Posted December 6, 2008 Despite intense opposition by a diverse selection of people and organisations, the government has now implemented its controversial (read highly unjust and brutal) battery of welfare reforms. New claims of Income Support ceased being offered on the 24th November 2008 to parents with a youngest child aged 12 to 16. The parent are only offered the option of Job Seekers' Allowance which has a condition attached that they must actively search for employment and report to the Job Centre every two weeks. Income Support will gradually be phased out as a benefit over 2009 and 2010. Have any parents here been affected by the reforms yet? Are others concerned that they will be seriously affected when the time comes for them to move from IS to JSA?
