risperidol

Recommended Posts

Sear all of you,

I would like to know how did you manage to get risperidole for your children?

I was told that I belong /my son/ under the learning disab partnership and I can get authorization for Gp from them only.

I have serious problems with the consultant as he wants to start my son on 4-6mg to start with and me and husband want 0.5 or 1mg to start with.

Anyway he has already started 1mg /from private doctor from Hungary/ but I have problem as GP would like to give but cannot without the consultant`s agreement.

Did you go with your children to NHS cconsuktants or on private??

Please do answer and help us if you can.

All the best

Edith

Ask for a referal to CAMHS. A initial prescription can be given by them and if your GP is willing (not all GPs are), future prescriptions can be insued through your GP.

Sorry what is CAMHS??

Can you help,please??

Hi

Might be worth contacting NAS to find out if there are any adult services which your son can access within your locality. The kind of thing that might be available is a drop in centre (they have one in Edinburgh for adults) where he could meet others in the same position. Could help with social situations/relationships, job applications, increasing independence, medication, etc. Might also be worth contacting your GP to ask what services are available and a referral to a specialist (you needn't necessarily mention medication). In my son's case, we're awaiting to be seen by CAMHS to discuss medication - I'm aware that in the first instance, he'll have to be assessed (yet again!) by a psychologist. I'm guessing that's the same in adults. In my experience so far, it's difficult to bypass a GP and refer yourself to NHS services. In my own experience with my son, our GP and HV wouldn't entertain the idea that my son had AS and it took persistence and for me to lose my temper (not that I'm recommending this, but it showed them that I'd had enough of them being obstructive) before they agreed to make referrals.

Best wishes

Dear Caroline,

GP said that as my son has learning disab + autism he can only go to Learning Disab.Partnership where I experienced yhis difficulty with the psychgiatric consultant who wants 6mg/day medication where in his case 1mg/day /brought from Hungary/ would do.

GP says he has no right to go to the "normal" adult psych services aand he has no right to go privately either - or at least GP will not prescribe rirperidone even it is suggested by a private consultant.

Do you know how much private consulkt costs???

I wrote to NAS about it but probably because of Christmas the answer is delayed.

Unfortunately thes "proffessinals" can really help me to lose my patience and then it is easy to say that the mother is not"normal".

Have you experienced that??

They hardly know anything about autism or AS but do not admit it.

Thanks for answer anyway.

We have no such a forum as the one in Edinborough only a nice group of parents meet from time to time but they think I cannot do a lot unless I take my son privately which I dpout that I can afford.

Wish you a good day,

Edith :robbie:

Thanks Enid,

Yes I also questioned it and psych consultant knows that my son takes only 1mg/day and has improved bbut he insists that he should take 6mg/day.

No reasoning with him as he does not want to accept that parents can know and that we read a lot on the "topic" and we also keep in touch.

Tomorrow I will go back to social worker if I find her .

I have no strenght for complain procedure anymore.by the time your child is 22 you know there were so many complains and fights.

My son`s autism was the least problem to ompare with fights with GPs ,consultants, social workers.LEA etc.

Although from time to time thare were a few who were good but this was exeption to the rule.

Thanks for answer.

Wish you a good day,

Edith
