DD has spelt Mumy, Daby (mummy, Daddy) this way since yr 1

 

 

She also wrote the sentences vertical and horizontal and said that its her other language (vertical) sentences.

 

 

 

 

We got a pead appointment today (Friday) should i ask for another referral to O.T

Hi there. As a teaching assistant, what I get from this is that your girl Is learning and remembering some key words, there seems to be evidence that she may be looking to wall displays for inspiration when stuck(hindi)or that may be coincedence.

 

It is common if a child is struggling with phonetics (decoding the sounds in words) for them to relly on learned words and look around to get clues from things off the wall.

She has had a jolly good go which shows intelligence.

I think she may have trouble hearing what sounds are in a word, or remembering what letters represent those sounds, and possibly with letter/word order(just sequencing) and left/right issues.

 

These are things that can make learning towrite an extra chalenge for her but she can learn eventually if given good teaching.

 

I think she needs a good phonics programme to follow, and practice sequencing things (putting pictures of events in order).

 

I would show this to your peadiatrician. He may say dyslexia or suggest assessing for it but I just think these issues are usually part of the ASD or ADHD.

 

I was diagnosed as dyslexic but now I am being assessed for ADHD. My writing is so much better as we all continue to learn as we get older and have never had the issue forced. It just all clicked into place eventually.

My son is the same, try to do some research on the net and find somewhere you can get an assessment, not sure NHS will do it for you, its a bit specialised.Best of luck, suzex

I think that is meant to be hiding? I'm a bit rusty at reading phonetic spellings. I see letter reversals and poor formation....y for g for eg.

 

(can't help laugh a little because I'm sure there's some welsh words in there! )

 

Seriously though, I would want to speak to her teacher, without knowing your dd's difficulties and what her normal written work is like it's hard to comment, but there do appear to be some areas that at 8 yrs old I would be concerned about. Has she been assessed for dyslexia or dyspraxia for example? There might be evidence of not hearing phonemes in words too as it isn't easy to read phonetically too. Whether that's poor hearing, poor processing or not learnt her phonics fully yet is difficult to say with out assessing her. Definately go talk to the school and copy the work to show the paed though

Had a pead appointment, feeling good, now have there support YIPEE. They understand and apologised of the distress and diffculty i have had from the schools denial and hitting brick walls with them.

 

 

So outcome today is,

 

 

Referral to a SLT who specialises in subtle diffculties, pragmatic and segmantic problems.

Referral again to o.t for sensory.

We have to get a dyslexic assessment done as they want to rule out if this is Dyslexic or she had parts of it.

 

They are writing to the school to insist she gets referred to to an ED psy as they want a report pead also said she suspects they will decline.

 

They want an observation done in school for her social communcation problems but will wait the the Specialist Slt REFERRA as she thinks the school wont be honest.

Also film of her playskills in September

Hi Katie i have replied to you on another post but i am so pleased that someone is finally listening to you, i can see me having to fight like you have as well as you well know melissas teacher is similar to yours nothing is wrong she is social and that is that, she is immature and does go into her own world and does do some attention seeking behaviour and does take things from school but apart from that she is ok oh and apart from being just a tad behind, like on stage 2 books 0/6 spellings and can't put 3 words together, and can just manage to count to 30 and has sats at the end of May that is ok too. They are great these supportive teachers aren't they. But i had a good appt with cahms, as originally it was a one off interview but they want to see me again on my own without Melissa to ask all the nitty gritty stuff, she did ask if melissa would understand that i was talking about her, i said no she goes into her own world. But i am really pleased for you and your daughter finally and i am also glad that they understand that the school is so unsupportive and that they don't trust their judgement and getting other professionals advice. Hi Katie i have just sent you a message on another post asking how you were getting on? Melissa does that also just copies from all over the classroom when she is asked to write a sentence, obviously makes no sense.. but like your teacher says nothing to worry about we are just neurotic mums but at least you are now getting listened to anyother updates?
