baddad Report post Posted February 17, 2009 new series of it on atm. anyone else watch it? I don't watch it, but do like programmes like this and/or 'supernanny' etc that explore extremes of behaviour and higlight them within the neurotypical population. This type of programme demonstrates that these are not 'autistic traits' and that to label them as so by default is inappropriate and potentially harmful. Another interesting programme I have been watching is 'Boys and girls alone' (on tonight). Not sure it's any more of a 'social experiment' than (i.e.) Big Brother, but it is interesting to see the whole gamut of behaviours being displayed (controlling/aggressive/bullying/exclusive/judgemental/selfish/intolerant/antisocial etc) without labels being applied and to also see children resolving those sorts of conflicts for themselves once consequences (arising, in the most part, from peers) are made clear to them. Outside of these self contained 'villages' mums and dads would be dictating the terms of socialisation, and i suspect the result would be far less tolerent/accepting than the terms thrashed out by these 8 - 11 year olds. I also recently really enjoyed the documentary on the crisis in schools from disruptive/aggressive pupils for similar reasons. L&P BD
