Do you have a favourite word?

Recommended Posts

Do you have a favourite word or even a word you have made up yourself?

My longterm favourite word is Harmony.

My flavour of the month is Oblomovism.

Vladimir Nabakov makes great use of the word pusillanimous in his book "Lolita"

The book is a treasure trove of wonderful rarely used and also self invented words.

Hi

My favourite word is grovel - not the meaning, just the word. It sounds like a little maggot or grub (to me anyway!!).

I can tell you every two year old's favourite word:

'NO'

(unless you're asking 'do you want choklit' or something of that ilk... now that's a nice word 'ilk'

it's a type of lemur, by the way - as in Ilk Lemur (bah taht!)

:D

Mine is spydle-eye spydle - eye. My DS could not say 'I spy with my little eye......'

Of course it has to be said twice. It always brings a smile to my face. happy memories

I've always had a penchant for 'etiolated'. Strange, that, given I also like the word 'billabong'. Other words wot I like include:

ebullition

perfunctory

machination

nebulous

CHOCOLATE

Words I don't like:

penchant (not when it's spoken)

gyroscopic

THERE IS NO CHOCOLATE LEFT
