Hello!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm 35, and think I'm an aspie.

I was a pretty awkward feet first birth (obviously can't remember myself - but mum can!)

Although I did pretty well at school, I did have dificulties in communication and coordination - particularly handwriting and sports.

The same applies to my adult life so far - doing pretty well, but coordination and communication are a struggle.

The biggest dificulty recently is defending myself - several times at my last but one job, I'd get assignments, would produce a nice spec, get that confirmed and produce the reports, and they'd say it was all hunky dory - only to pipe up a few weeks later and tell my boss I'd done it all wrong, my boss just wouldn't back me up when I'd told her that the spec had been ok'd. This would have been one of the factors that led to my redundancy there.

Anyway - I've just made the first steps towards getting a diagnosis - the GP was ok about it, and I've been refered to a mental health linkworker for an appt next week.

its good that you got an appointment with MH link worker hopefully you will find out more information there is the worker doing an assessment for official diagnosis? who referred you there in first place? do you have MH probs then? any you have any other help and support? with handwriting and soprts sounds some signs of dyspraxia and with communication sounds like AS oviously they can overlap into same thing or two seperate conditions but signs are very sameness in different conditions on the autistic spectrum i oviously are not professionally trained to say you have either or none but i personally have both and i would get checked out for both too to make sure that you have an answer of some kind! and rule out anything you don't think applies to you and step on on things you think add up to an official diagnosis/es

good luck

take care

She seemed Very nice - Said that she'd norticed an increase in adults wanting a diagnosis, and told me about some support groups for employment advice and other general help (which I will be in contact with)

And although there are no NHS diagnosis services in our area, she did give information on the autism research centre in cambridge (they've lost their funding for out of area assessments, but do provide privbate diagnoses.

Good news and I hope it comes as a relief. I expect it will take a bit of time to adjust to the diagnosis.

So I'm planning to have the word "ASPIE" tattooed on my forehead in big letters...

not!

Make sure you have it written in reverse so that people can read it in their rear-view mirrors and drive away quickly

Well done for going through it- you must be feeling kind of relieved but also strange... but it must be good knowing for sure.

I will have to wait a while yet before I know if I am an Aspie or not and I hate waiting!!
