Surgery

Recommended Posts

Meg was seen at the specialist hospital today (had to get up at 0530!! :crying: )

Anyhoo, she's going to have surgery at the site of the original fracture to see if they can restore the nerve that's been damaged. Then another wait of 3 to 9 months to see if this has worked, and if it hasn't then they will go ahead with the tendon transfers.

We're really pleased with this, especially as the surgery has been marked as urgent and will be before Christmas!

Hi Bid

Hope the surgery does what it's supposed to do and that it happens soon - I don't suppose you have any idea exactly when it will be?

Don't have the date yet, but definitely before Christmas which is great :D

All very clever stuff: even if the nerve has been severed they may be able to use a section of another nerve in the upper arm to join the ends together.

Of course, they may find that they can't do anything, or whatever they do may not work, but they are really keen to try as amazing things can happen with children when it comes to regeneration, etc.

Still many months to go yet before we get some kind of solution, but I feel as though there is a clear game plan now :)

Bid :)

Well, when they said 'urgent', they weren't messing around! :o The hospital phoned today to book her in for surgery on Dec 2.

So now I'm feeling horribly wobbly :tearful:

Thanks for the good wishes :)

Bid :)

On the down side, she has had several problems with bullying from some lads and even inappropriate remarks from non-teaching staff...another incident today :( The school is on top of things, but why on earth would anyone, especially an adult, want to upset a child who quite clearly has a physical problem as she has to wear a wacking big bionic hand splint? :(
