bigcol Report post Posted February 11, 2010 Hello I have just been diagnosed after a lifetime of being treat for varying things including depression anxiety, a young psychologist arranged for me to be assessed for aspergers. I am just at the beginning but unforntunatley my PCT has withdrawn funding for the service so it is to close. I was desperate to find help and came across this forum I am 48 so not young and it may be that this is not th epalce for me, as a lot of people seem to be younger, there are many things I would like to ask aboput but I am still unsure if I fit in. smiley1590 Report post Posted February 11, 2010 sorry to hear funding been pulled underneath the service it so frequent and common don't make it any more comfortable or easy to accept and cope with when relying on that service to provide years of unaswered and unexplained questions /situations that happen to you in your life! that probably you want some bits of puzzle that start coming together! ..... if i was you i would get in touch with NAS ( National Autistic Society) explain personal situation they have services which can assess and officially diagnose if they find out you DO have it indeed! you don't need then to rely on service funding maybe waiting list! but you need to know after all these years! they assess any age no age limit on it and may also support your individual needs with support package afterwards if arranged and disccussed! i would ring or email them ASAP! find out where you stand with eveything going on! have you been officially diagnosed with depression anxiety then bit confused lost on that part everything else i completely get! good luck fingers crossed for you! bigcol Report post Posted February 11, 2010 ... have you been officially diagnosed with depression anxiety then bit confused lost on that part everything else i completely get! good luck fingers crossed for you! XKLX I have been told over the years it is depression/anxiety, but now have been told is is aspergers, but instead of getting on the waiting list for help, the whole department has closed. It seems the depression/anxiety is a result of the undiagnosed aspergers. I hope this help, it is very confusing even for me.
JsMum Report post Posted February 11, 2010 I would defo get intouch with NAS, there is also private dx route, so dont be too disheartened that your point of support is closing down, its getting pretty familiar storys isnt it, down here our phychology specialist services are closing down too, who knows where people will go to now for phsychotherapy, Art Therapy, ect..... its sad isnt it, but I do see a glimmer of light in your post, for the first time someone has said AS, and this for you must be a reliefe, Depression and Anxiety is often a co mid, condition of Udx and unmet needs of AS. National Autistic Society have a wealth of information to help you understand more of Adult late Dx of AS, so do contact them and they have support helplines too, another service for more support is Oaasis. http://www.oaasis.co.uk/ Your defo not too old to be here too, there is many Adults here your age with AS, some are parents of children/young people with AS too. Glad you found your way here. JsMumxxx
