Mumble Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Does anyone know of anywhere I can get Lego (the real stuff, not the fakes that don't hold together) a little more cheaply than the usual Lego store etc.? I've always loved Lego (how ASD! ) but I've found recently I've got some time to indulge in it and it's something I can do and really enjoy to pass the time. My town's beginning to look great, but I've run out of bricks so I currently have a tiny town with a hugely over-sized airport . I'd love to add more, I particularly like the look of the various railway sets they do, but the cost is really prohibitive. Anyone know of any cheaper sources? Tally Report post Posted December 15, 2010 I bet there are loads of people with grown up children who still have their kids' lego. Have you tried ebay or freecycle?

chris54 Report post Posted December 15, 2010 EBay. My son has a big box of Lego most inherited from his big brother, but he usually plays with the Duplo, Giant Lego, which we have an even bigger box of. He finds it easy to use, not so fiddly. Last christmas some one got him one of these Lego car Kit's, I got the job of putting it together. I could not believe how difficult it was, it took me half the morning. It then got taken apart and was absorbed into the rest. One of our neighbors recently gave him some Lego technic (Left over from when her son was a child) This gives Lego a whole new dimension. Mumble Report post Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks - oh dear, maybe going to ebay wasn't a good idea... There's some fantastic stuff there, the basic blocks aren't too badly priced generally, but anything specialist can go for lots (or have ridiculous reserves). Last Christmas some one got him one of these Lego car Kit's, I got the job of putting it together. I could not believe how difficult it was, it took me half the morning. They do do some really complex sets - they currently have a complete Tower Bridge model which they say is for ages 16+ but at over £200 I'll wait till I win the lottery. Anyway if I made Tower Bridge I would probably then feel compelled to add in the other Thames bridges... One of our neighbors recently gave him some Lego technic (Left over from when her son was a child) This gives Lego a whole new dimension. I have a very old technic set of motors, lights etc. I had when I was little, which definitely wouldn't pass current health and safety - I've put the motor into a helicopter I made and the propellers go round at such a rate I'm sure they could remove body parts! Mandapanda Report post Posted December 16, 2010 Hi Mumble My son is well into Lego. He found this site: http://www.bricklink.com/index.asp It's a good site for getting individual bricks, minifigs etc, as well as sets. May not necessarily be cheaper, I am not sure. You may just want to check the location of the sellers as they are all over the world. We only buy from UK sellers.
Mumble Report post Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks Mandapanda, I haven't seen that site before and there's lots to look through there. I found the most disturbing item for sale on ebay last night - someone was selling 12 minifig legs. No bodies or heads, just legs. I suppose it would have been more worrying if they were just selling heads!

Stella63 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Hi Mumble Haven't been online much recently but just saw this thread. OJ is now nearly 15 and has finally decided to start getting rid of some of his many collections of things. We took two crates of megabloks down to the hostice shop today and although he struggled to part with his dragons he was really understanding that other children may benefit and the charity itself. Anyway, we have boxes and boxes of stuff to pass to them, but I have a huge crate of lego, nothing special but loads of bricks which have no personal meaning to OJ. I also have a box of my lego, from the 1960's, 1970's which is going as well. If you are interested, pm me and we can arrange for it to be sent to you. My only thoughts are that his and my toys go to people who will get some good from them and enjoy them. Please let me know asap as I am trying to clear his room - his Xmas present is new funky furniture - all black and red - he and I are going to attempt making up flat pack furniture tomorrow - not too sure how that will work out!!
