BethK Report post Posted April 1, 2011 I received a letter today, saying that my son's application for statementing has gone through and a full assesment is taking place. I was a little confused about it, so called the relevant number, they explained that the people at the panel have accepted the application but they want a full written report from his nursery before going further. Gotta be something, right?
bonbons Report post Posted April 2, 2011 Many kids are refused at this point so well done I say!! I was lucky to have a straight forward experience with my LEA for my DD , but I know from what I've read of others experience on the forum that this isn't always the case' best of luck! BethK Report post Posted April 2, 2011 Thank you x I'm excited as I really thought they would dismiss it. But at 3 and a half and not speaking and his other issues, I was hoping it wouldn't be tossed out due to his age. Fingers crossed it goes through without a hitch, as I really could do with him going to a specialized school in september!

Suze Report post Posted April 4, 2011 Thats really positive news..the whole assessing process can be quite daunting as lots of assessments take place and people become involved but as others have said it costs the LA money to assess and they would,nt do it if they did,nt think he needed it ..iyswim
BethK Report post Posted April 4, 2011 yeah IKWYM, I'm glad it's happening, I've been fighting my son's corner for a solid 14-15 months and now I sort of can relax. He needs to right care and treatment, I just don't want him to be speechless for life

Suze Report post Posted April 5, 2011 You know I can,t speak for your son, but mine is a completely different boy to the one he was as a pre-schooler.Not least that hes 6ft now lol.But despite the physical changes his autism isn,t the same either. As a 4 yr old pre dx as well, he had some very debilitating sensory issues, anxieties etc.Now hes older he isnt as affected by these, ....who knows how your sons speech will develop, but one things for sure nothings impossible and getting a statement is the first step .Its hard to know whats around the corner and scary too I have a friend whose son was in specialist provision at primary age, hes now with my son at high school still at an ASD resource but hes very verbal now and his mum never thought he,d manage at mainstream. All the best suzexx
BethK Report post Posted April 5, 2011 Thank you Suze, that's reassuring to know. He is pretty canny for his age, I've always said the non-speach doesn't stop him from getting/doing what he wants He is clever, in that he can work things out at the drop of the hat and you can't fool him but looking at him, everything else, he is still like an 18month old. Nursery has helped him along pretty well, so hoping a specialist school can do more, so that he can lead as normal as a life that he can x
