I'm really puzzled .......

Recommended Posts

...as to why the thread entitled "people with autism are a untapped resource in IT" was zapped Threads dogo "off topic" in the same way that conversations do but if posters lose interest in them and cease posting they'll surely die a natural death.

Are you really puzzled?

Some of us would say that the thread was closed because of the evils of authoritarianism and the control of "the higher systems"

Other's might say because it had gone off-topic

Other's did say that it was boring them

And me? Well, I don't know really... maybe it just did get boring and they couldn't be bothered for it to die a natural death - natural deaths can be pretty long sometimes... it was definitely off-topic... But your point is fair, conversations do go that way and end up in other places then when they begun. If you are really interested in IT and ASD you can always start a new post ;)

Because it had become mainly two people just nit picking at each other - that kind of thread never dies as someone's always got to have the last word.

Because I'm authoritarian and evil- possibly.

Feel free to pick up on any of the more interesting themes and start a new thread if you want to.

'Draconian' I'd say (is it just me, or would others like to just punch in the face anyone who uses the word 'draconian' other than in the purely ironic sense as I've just used it?). and because it was probably only a couple of posts away from somebody mentioning Hitler/Nazis...

or it could just be because {xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcensoredxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}

No - it's blue. The big red button is the one that launches the missiles. I haven't ever had to use that one.

Yet.

i think it got closed because of one of my many crass generalisations triggerd which is a shame for the origional poster.????But dont quote me.after all i've had no education and am not qualified to be grammatically literate, working class to boot, and not a member of the propertied class,in short insignificant non specific looney.

Someones got to be authoritarion, and they usually dont get much appreciation for it,its probably one of the most thankless job ever being a moderator on a site like this, people love their binmen more ,some people don't understand that power is more about responsibility.thanks for your moderation.

Hmmm maybe the beginning of the moderation movement eh? They do say everything should be in moderation... But do the moderators moderate their own moderation or does someone have to moderate it for them?!?!?

who judges the judges??,leadership means taxes.

Overall i think the moderators are great and forgive them for being human and making odd knee jerk reactions.it must be a difficult job on this site due to its fundamental nature. And which fool would like to be a moderator and decide between a load of people who have ,to put it politly 'communication problems'.

lets just hope none of them are state trained mental health staff.

sanity, good taste, and appropiatness are very subjectives things, even with a nebulous DSM checklist..I once replied to apost about physical pain and insomnia then got a knee jerk reaction by someone who obviously had no idea about how it affects people over the years, let alone how to deal with it.I objected,

i saw a bloke called HUGHEY going on about feelings of violence and was moderated, for many good reasons.i felt that it was'nt so much what he said but the reaction of moderators to what he said that seemed unfair ,but thats just an opinion, not a truth..then on this post i read a remark about 'punch in the face' but thats ok.maybe our litery skills of expression have a great effect.I always take a minute before going on this site and try to remeber all those who cannot write their experience on this forum.

I am a mechanical specialist on a particular 70's classic motorbike and contribute a lot of mechanical advice to a bike chat forum.its a great site ,one of the uk's biggest, but the goalposts of 'appropiate content' are extreme. But when someone gets pulled its usually forever.

Just to point out hughey was trolling the site and trying to wind people up on here - he got caught and tried to do it in another post in which most people ended up ignoring him. That's not to say that there arent people on the spectrum who struggle with violent thoughts, however there are guidelines about posting stuff like that on here when other people get distressed about it.

He also fairly obviously had a 'fellow conspirator' , and (IMO) is still very effectively making his presence and opinions known on the boards through the same channel(s). The downside of a PM system is that when small groups of people develop a 'group' identity and agenda it gets quite unpleasant, especially if for whatever reason one or more feel they have personal issues with other posters. You can spot such groups a mile away, but unfortunately unless someone approached by them reports it to the mods there's not much you can do about that kind of 'flaming' because it will just be denied and used as the justification for feigned outrage.

It's usually fairly obvious when this kind of thing is happening, but sadly quite often even when obvious people only see what they want to see and/or are quite happy to pretend they don't see it if it suits them. Horrible stuff! *shudder*

As a big bad moderator I thought I would mention that threads are not closed lightly and most of the time it is because people have started arguing and the original point of the thread has got lost. At that point it isn't usually worth engaging in a protracted debate about whose fault it was which is why I have moderated one of the comments in this thread.

It is usually best to close the offending thread, give everyone time to calm down and move on which is more or less what happened here.

Do moderators conspire with certain individuals or are unduly influenced by them?

No, but they do blackmail us - you should see the size of the white chocolate parcel I have to send to Kathryn every week to be allowed to remain here...:ph34r:

now i need to get some dirt on you mumble :) or you could send me the chocolate anyway hehe

as for paranoia and monitoring the mods - they do a pretty good job on here and that's not sucking up. they are consistent - especially about talking about violence. that's part of the guidelines on here, so why when they enforce it does that suddenly mean they are in cohorts or league with people?

sometimes they need to step in - that's the long and the short of it.

now back to this chocolate mumble was talking about...

It is probably time to clear up a few misunderstandings here.

This is a private forum run at their own expense by the forum owners, according to the rules set out for everyone to see. They pay for it themselves which is a fantastic gesture, and this is the reason the forum has no subscription fees or advertising.

On a day to day basis the forum is looked after by the moderators. There is simply no need for the owners to be answerable to any higher authority, or for the moderators to tolerate what is, to be frank, mod baiting. We all do this job for nothing in our own time, and we are not some kind of intellectual plaything to be talked about as if wee are not there.

As this thread has run it's course it will now be closed.
