Canopus Report post Posted August 3, 2012 Would you be happy to vote for an independent candidate at an election who wore a hooded top rather than a suit and tie assuming you generally agreed with their policies?

darkshine Report post Posted August 3, 2012 Possibly yeah cuz I could see past that - but I don't think most of the general population would vote for someone in a hoodie... And I have to say that it wouldn't look very professional would it? I think sometimes there are certain professions where you sort of expect to see someone dressed a certain way - it's like this template that they conform to - it shouldn't really matter but it does to some extent. But then you could have this debate about uniforms and class distinction too... not everyone conforms - but most seem to... People seem to judge other people on what they wear, rather than who they are, what they say, what they do and how good at their job they may be. Canopus Report post Posted August 4, 2012 I think it depends on the target audience. If it happens to be some snobby semi-rural part of Surrey filled with BMW driving investment bankers then anything less than a hand made suit will not cut it with the voters. If it happens to be a less well off neighbourhood with a youthful audience then wearing a hoodie might be on for a winner. The Independent Working Class Association wear black bomber jackets and have managed to elect councillors in Oxford so wearing a suit and tie isn't always necessary for success. darkshine Report post Posted August 4, 2012 Good points I wasn't aware of The Independent Working Class Association - but that isn't a surprise as I have a limited interest in the people involved in politics - gonna have to look them up though cuz I definitely haven't seen or heard of bomber jacket wearing ones What annoys me is that a lot of the upper middle class types just don't seem to have a clue what it's like for everyone else - that is the impression that comes across to me. Whether they wear a suit or not doesn't change some of the total rot that comes out of their mouths.... Maybe the very fact of someone wearing something else could make me pay a bit more attention, cuz it's breaking out of that mould of "what a politician should be like"..... Then again, I can think of a few working class guys who still wear suits So would you be willing to vote for an independent candidate wearing a hoodie? And why?
