Noskcaj86 Report post Posted October 23, 2012 Our son wont sleep... Hes exhausted. Hes very pale and has red/gray bags under his eyes. Ive taken him to the doctor 2 times in the last 11 days asking for medication to help him but they wont prescribe anything. Its affecting the whole family, keeping his brothers awake and exhausting us all. I dont know what to do?! Im asking for help as a last resort but nobody is listening.., do i just keep going back to the doctor and asking?? Thanx
justine1 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Most GP's do not prescribe sedatives(or melatonin) for minors they are prescibed by specialist paediatrician. You could go back to the GP and ask for a referral to a paediatrician or to a sleep clinic(some are run by paediatric nurses)
Noskcaj86 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Were stuck waiting to hear from a paediatrician as we moved house/area and had to be refered to a new paed at new hospital. So until we hear from new paed were stuck. Hopefully the doctor visits will speed up the paediatrician appointment.
trekster Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Have you tried natural remedies? eg lavender (avoid if epileptic) or taking supplements such as taurine, gaba or 5htp? Why can't he sleep? Have you tried insomnia methods eg going to bed at the same time each night? There is a book about 'sleep and autism' by JKP. Really hope you can get your sleep sorted out soon. im also struggling to sleep some of it is anxiety and some is the physical pain i happen to be in. Linnet Report post Posted October 24, 2012 When I was young I went through a period of not sleeping because I overheard a friend of my mum's saying the unseasonable weather was a sign of the end of the world. Is something on your son's mind which is stopping him sleeping? Although I wouldn't say what was worrying me my mum dealt with it by telling me that if I couldn't sleep it didn't matter as I was resting my body when I was lying in bed. This helped me get out of the cycle of worrying that I couldn't sleep and once I started feeling more relaxed I started sleeping again.
philipo Report post Posted October 28, 2012 just moving house can be stressfull and night owl asd'rs can take some time to get used to the noises.tiring him out, makingsure he's up in the morning and feeding him in the evening can help.I'd try lavender/hops on the pillow and (if poss) makehim drink a smakk cp of chamomile tea before sleep. remember that melatonin is an aid to a good sleep pattern, not a sleep tranq/pill. dont let em doze in the day. Luckily the last 3 night have been a bit better, mannaged to get him to sleep at 8 pm thursday night and he slept through. Then friday night he slept 9pm, but woke up at 12am wanting his daddy, then fell back asleep at 12.15 so not to bad either. Isobel Report post Posted October 28, 2012 You can get herbal remedies that aid sleep, mum uses kalms for the dog during fireworks. Doesn't send her to sleep but it makes her settle down quicker afterwards.

Isobel Report post Posted October 29, 2012 Well if they're safe for a dog, surely they're safe for a 4 year old? Try half a tablet to be on the safe side?
