Quick update on Glen + new care home :-)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys just wanted to give you a quick update on Glen. He is currently undergoing a mental health assessment in a specialised autism hospital in Birmingham and he is doing extremely well. Glen's self harming has decreased significantly, his meds have been changed for the better, his anxiety has also decreased. Staff have also managed to get Glen saying words again which he hadn't done in some time. Glen will be there until March.

It will not be suitable for Glen to return to his current care home, as it just didn't work out for Glen there, the manager has said it would be better if Glen moved on, which I totally agree with.

My husband and I have been looking at care homes in Essex (local to where we live) and have found one which we feel can meet Glen's needs and somewhere hopefully he can be happy. Once the manager of this home has been given a referral from Essex County Council she is going to Birmingham to assess Glen. I really hope this all works out. It would be so nice to have Glen much nearer to home. The Essex care home is about 40 minutes away from us, compared to the care home in Coventry being 2.1/2 hours away, so a lot of difference!

We are going to the hospital on Friday to visit Glen, so looking forward to seeing him, although a little apprehensive, as in the past Glen has been know to get upset if we have visited him at a care home or in hospital as only associates seeing us 'at home' if you see what I mean? Staff are aware of this and will be supporting us on Friday to try to make our visit a happy one. I will keep you updated :-)

Fingers crossed, Jeanne, really hope that it works out well for Glen in the new home. Will this be permanent if he gets in, do you think? It must be very hard to have to move from one to another every few years. Hope your visit to the hospital goes well and that Glen continues to improve.

Hi Mel thanks so much for your comments. The new care home isn't definite yet but I'm hoping it will be. The manager at this care home could not understand how awful the management was regarding not giving Glen car drives, she is just the opposite, staff take the young people there out for car drives as they all enjoy their rides. There are only 4 young people live in this home, one is moving out shortly which is why there is a space come up. The fewer people the better where Glen is concerned. I am really hopeful that this could work out so well. Yes this could be permanent which would also be good for Glen.

I hope Glen doesn't get upset seeing us on Friday, but staff have assured me they will be supporting Glen and hopefully it will be a positive visit.

Hi Mandy, thanks. We are attending the 12 week review meeting next Friday the 1st of March, so we will see if Glen will be discharged or whether they want him to stay there longer.

How are things with you and your son, how is college going?
