hi Helen,

I've just come across your post.

I know you asked back in august, so I'm not sure if you still come here?

but I can possibly help you with that question.

i'm a bit of a petrol head. I've not got much experience with quad bikes, but engines are engines. etc.

be it quad bikes or cars, it's all the same sort of stuff :-)

i'm assuming you aren't interested in the green factor here? since you mention your interest being performance.

then In that case i'd have to say,

i'd go electric.

for vehicles as small as quad bikes, you aren't gonna be able to fit a v12 in her,

so any petrol engine, it's going to be pretty rubbish anyway on that size and scale of thing?

(and to be honest who would want to go 220 mph over rough terrain in a quad bike anyway? :-)

electric is good.

performance wise, the torque is fantastic.

the engine instantly responds. your low end accelations are going to be awesome.

re: the "non performance" related issues,

batteries are getting better and better these days.

you can charge to 80% on modern battery packs, in just half an hour.

i.e. have a coffee, read the morning news, and she's ready to go :-)

plus) you don't have to worry about shipping smelly petrol/ diesel around in red cans.

just plug her into your mains, and your sorted.

the only down side is batteries never last for ever. vehicle battery life times are getting better and better, especially with these new magnesium ion batteries I've been hearing they are developing,

but one day, your batteries will die, and that will be an expensive replacement.

very very expensive.

all the best.

I just realised I forgot to mention another factor that might be important to you.

i.e. range.

like I said earlier, I have not got much experience with quads,

but I imagine the principals the same as cars.

the size of battery you'd be able to put on a quad bike, might not give you the range you'd get from petrol or diesel.

I know with cars, the difference is about 4 or 5 to one.

I.e. you might get 500 miles from a full tank of petrol, but only 100 miles from a full charged battery.

not sure how that equates to quads, but I thought i'd mention it.
