bid Report post Posted August 16, 2005 Hi We're in East Hertfordshire. Our experience shows that our LEA can deliver...from no Statement to a place at a residential special school for AS in 6 months... BUT...just ask Loulou and Kathryn about their experiences with the same LEA!! Bid

UltraMum Report post Posted August 18, 2005 Hi Mothereve and Waccoe, I also have Doncaster as my LEA, Hi bluejean-genie, Sorry not to have replied sooner - life's a bit fraught and I've now got a stinking summer cold. Hi Waccoe, According to our asd specialist teacher(lovely woman) there are 40+ children diagnosed in our area in this year alone. That's about one for every week of the school year ... Did you see the story in the local paper this week about the child with no school ?(he came to our playgroup for a short while) No - must have missed that one ... It would be good to swap stories about the provision in our area, we too have a (undx by choice,so far) 9 yr old son, and can see problems ahead (that's in addition to our 5 yr old who has the dx, the statement, the provision, but NO respite !) I rang up social services and kicked up a fuss - mainly because I ended up with really bad depression at the end of last summer (my vicar also contacted them - he has a son with autism too) - the CH&D team have given me two playgroup sessions and one trip out for my son this summer and it has definitely helped to have some respite. We've no family in the area and it's difficult to ask friends ... Perhaps we three should arrange a meeting - we may already know each other!

It does help having Aspergers East Angila in Norwich which help parents dealing with statementing and schooling issues Regards Marie Hi there Marie My kids go to school in Norfolk on the border with Cambs. I have alot of support from the school...since moving my eldest to a school where my friend was the senco.... I know I am very lucky to have that opportunity.... The support tema at the local hospital arereally good...if I ring up I usually get a reply either that day or the next couple of days..and are my support team are on first name basis.... I think we might live quite near to each other....

smallworld Report post Posted August 22, 2005 We all had a great time (quite poignant really cos it made me realise how little 'good' attention the elder two get) thought the film was great, even though I fell asleep at one point ! Haven't dared take 5 yr old to cinema yet, one day.... wac
smallworld Report post Posted August 23, 2005 Going back to MotherEve's suggestion of a meet, how about extending this to include other members within easy travelling distance of donny ? Just an idea, the more the merrier ! We border on several other counties, and seem to be a hub for rail and road links. Now I sound like I am working for the council, will stop my tourism for Doncaster speech ! Let us know if you're interested, wac

OddFather Report post Posted September 7, 2005 I'm from Southwark. I've only realy had two issues with schools here. The first when my daughter was 6 and I was told if she didn't appologise to the teacher for calling her stupid she would be suspended. Seems the teacher was telling the children everything you eat turns to blood. DD tried to correct her and was told to shut up. When confronted she compounded the mistake by saying she was talking about animals. DD asked if it was true - I don't lie to my daughter. Nor did I make her appologise, I told them I would talk to her about the way she spoke to an adult and it would be her decision and I would back her up. Also I was sure the papers would be interested in knowing why a 6 yo was suspended. The second was when I wrote to the head teacher asking for advice when for when girls could start wearing bra's - was it cup size, age or dependant upon the maturity of her male peers. The teachers response to her being teased because she was wearing a training bra was 'don't wear it to school and you won't be teased!' As for LEAs I would settle for schools who care about their students and what they learn with teachers who have plenty of common sense and you can work with.
