HTGR Report post Posted June 7, 2014 Hi, I'm thinking about being assessed for Asperger's. At the moment I'm still deciding whether there is actually any benefit in me having a formal diagnosis. If I was to go through with it, how does the NHS vs Private assessments compare? I've read the NHS can be very reluctant to refer Adults looking for a possible assessment. I've also read of some people having trouble with the NHS recognizing their private assessments. I'm basically looking for any info on both routes at the moment before I take the first step (or not). I live in Bristol so any info on both NHS and private experiences would be helpful. I could also travel (within reason. i.e not too far) I have been quoted £750 for a private assessment. What is roughly the average cost? Ideally a self-referral unit on the NHS would be best for me but I think these are far and few around the country, right? Appreciate any help. Thanks.
