Ongoing sleep probs - me again

Recommended Posts

:) hi, I tried Melatonin as suggested by some of you in my thread no sleep.

Well, I took 30mg before bed, i felt woozy about an hour later, not sleepy but dizzy. Went to bed, didnt sleep a wink all night, but woke with a thumping headache and still feel woozy now.

Does melatonin make u feel dizzy at all, and is it normal not to sleep the first time u try it, im reluctant to take any more in case i feel rotten again tomorrow. :tearful:

Do you really mean 30mg? 3mg is nearer the mark!

Melatonin doesn't have side efects as such, but it doesn't work for everyone. Maybe 20% of people don't get any benefit from it. You will still need a good bedtime rputine for it to work. e.g avoid computer/TV alchohol, caffiene etc. for an hour before you go to bed.

My son (15) has never slept for more than 4-5 hours.

He was part of a sleep study a few years back. He was given valerian tablets. These helped, but when the study finished he refused to take them again. He didn't like the taste.

He was given Melatonin to countact the effect of Prozac (for his depression). Before the Melatonin he was on getting 2 hours sleep. It did help, but he's not taking any meds now, so he's back to square one.

Hi All,

I spoke on another thread about how we had given daughter 3 mg of melantonin then another 3mg when she woke during the night but all that happended was that she stayed up the whole night !

Call Me Jaded sugggested that I try with a smaller dose and I have had better results just using a 1/4 of a 3mg capsule - it puts her into a very relaxed state - usually she fights sleep all the way and she has been sleeping through until about 4.30am which isn't bad for her.

good luck !

I slept for 4 hrs last night which is a marathon for me. perhaps youre right about resistance, cos i was scared to use it, and i think i was dertermined for it not to work on the first night.

heres hoping it works for good now. wonder if any of u know if you just go back to a normal pattern of sleeping if u stop using it?

My sons sleeping has improved and mine is worse, think I may have too much on my mind at the mo, but the main problem is I am so tired the next morning, not keen on trying meds incase I don't wake when my son does :hypno: scary thought

I know what u mean about meds, but melatonin allows u to wake naturally anyway. It dosent knock u out like sleeping pills do, but allows u to go to sleep naturally.
