bid Report post Posted September 16, 2005 Auriel was doing GCSE Electronics at his old mainstream school. I had expressed concerns that he would find the practical aspects tricky because of Dyspraxia, but his Year Head made me feel terrible by saying things along the lines that I should have more faith in his ability Then guess what...he could do the theory easily, but struggled with all the practical projects, which lowered his confidence even further Anyway, now he's at his special school for AS, he's no longer doing Electronics. But because he's receiving specialist support, with a high ratio of AS trained staff, he's doing Craft, Design and Technology. And not only enjoying it but doing really well at the practical woodwork! He's made a brilliant DVD stand, and his exam piece this year is a computer table. Canopus Report post Posted September 17, 2005 It's the opposite with me. I never had any problems handling electronic equipment and could solder to a high standard when I was 10. I am not very good at woodwork unless its making splinters! I don't think I will ever master using a chisel properly. I prefer to use modern power tools such as a Black and Decker Wizard rather than traditional hand tools and techniques.
Suze Report post Posted September 17, 2005 My son is in yr 6 at primary school. But he has a keen interest and flare in woodwork metalwork electronics etc.I so hope he can have the opportuniy to explore these subjects more at HS. He builds things all the time in the garage, today he started a go-kart.He knows his way round a car engine too...........think it,s because he watches scrap heap challenge all the time .
