New Area .. New Problems

Recommended Posts

... sleep .... whats that, between T's nightmares and my anxiety attacks over his education (or lack or) sleep is something that is a deeply wished for experience ...

... anyways we've had our meeting, HT was very scary but everyone else was very nice, the lady from the to CIS's team and her assistant were fab, and are going to be supporting the school all the way, gave T a photo book of the school and the teachers he will come into contact with to help him prepare for the reintegration B)

... T will start P/T for two weeks and then increase to F/T, he has been successfully disapplied from languages and will have supported literacy and numeracy in the support centre, full TA support in every lesson and a restriction as much as is physically possible to 3 TA's. His situation will be constantly under review, and EP involved throughout. And although they have stipulated this is a trial placement it is very much from the point of view that will endeavour to all they can with mine and other agencies support for T to be able to maintain his placement. If the placement does fail, they have agreed that suitable placement from there would be to a special school and they would fight to support this action for T as well.

All the staff, including and most particularly the HT were shocked by the lack of provision in our direct locale and that not one SENCO felt they could meet T's needs, again this is not my problem this is a problem that lies full square at the feet of the LEA! All I have left to do now is sort the transport thing out .. oh joy!!! and write a very cleverly written letter to the LEA

Hopefully ... hopefully this will mean the beginning of better things for T and a chance to access some education and boost is self esteem, so much more I could write about the meeting ... but am feeling a bit like Baddad at the mo and very much Autism'd Out and SEN overloaded!!!

Going away tomorrow to stay with my sister in London for half term, so plan to leave everything to do with SEN behind and just enjoy my boys and have a rest. Saying that though I will not be letting the matter of the lack of ASD provision as detailed in my email to the local rag rest ... if I can do something I will and bringing into the public domain is definitely a start!

Thanks again everyone for being here to let me rant and moan etc .... dunno what I do with out you all

Had a very long chat with the reporter who wants to do a story, photos as well, said I would think on it overnight, have emailed her everything that I thought was relevant, T's Statement, my Parental Rep, Copies of letters from the LEA & my communications with them, and told her about the transport issue ... got to work tonight and all weekend, so will contact her again on Monday (T's first day at new school) and arrange to go ahead with the story. Feel nervous about it, and have emailed my MP letting him know that the paper are covering the story and if he had any comments he might wish to add.

Journalist has just emailed LEA response to the story they are going to run on saturday .. you'll love this

We support children with ASD/Aspergers in mainstream schools whenever that is possible. It is both Government policy and Devon County Council policy to include youngsters in mainstream schools.

"We have a specialist educational psychologist and advisory teachers for autism. And we provide learning support assistants to work with individual children.

"In Exeter, XXX has specially enhanced provision for children with autism. A special panel reviewed this case and recommended a mainstream school.

"Where parents chose a school which is not their designated school, they are obliged to pay for transport.

"Devon is a large rural county and we would always advise families moving here with specific educational needs to ensure that the provision they require is avialable locally before they choose exactly where to live."

What??????

Surely, they could get done for discrimination for saying that?
