LKS Report post Posted January 4, 2006 My AS daughter has epilepsy as well. She has a very poor diet and looks so pale all of the time. She doesn't take any supplements at the moment as it is hard to get her to take anything apart from her twice daily anti-epilepsy medication. However we are, at the moment, on doctor's advice cutting this down now. So what would everyone recommend that she starts taking
LKS Report post Posted January 5, 2006 When I was reading this again it sounds like I'm asking what people would recommend for epilepsy. What I'm really after are some supplements to improve her all round health. I know diet plays a big part and I'm working on this but I think she needs additional help. call me jaded Report post Posted January 5, 2006 I was just wondering if you'd looked at the B6, B12 and folate connection with epilepsy? It's not really my area of knowledge as my son does not have epilepsy, but I can look something out. Just a precaution, which I'm sure you would take anyway, is to mention to your daughter's epilepsy specialist whatever it is you want to do. You may get a response along the lines of 'it won't do any harm, but there's no evidence for it working' as I have on occassion. I've never let it put me off. Obviously you need to do a lot of reading. I've done B6 (which needs magnesium to be effective) for my son and it now forms part of the supplementing we do. In fact if you sign up to the DAN! webcast Bernard Rimland is talking about B6 there, but I haven't looked at it yet. Only ever try one thing at a time. You can buy Kirkman's products (developed with Bernard Rimland specifically for autism) from the Nutricentre website and collect Tesco clubcard points (top tip!). If you can get past the Jon Pangborn presentation (too technical) to Bernard Rimland (the chap with the Fidel Castro beard) you will get a good feel for it. Nikki Report post Posted January 8, 2006 My son wont take tablets in any form so I found an excellent multi vitamin, mineral & plant extracts liquid by Logic. I buy it through an online company called Always Natural. It comes in a big bottle & you can measure it out according to the child's weight and add it into their drink. Mine both like the peach flavour one & w have been using it now for about 2 years and it really has made a difference to them both especially my son who has a really poor diet. I tried all the other things like mag B6 etc before hand from Kirkman and mine hated the taste and we ended up throwing them away. This seems to go really well and we also supplent my sons diet with a vanilla flavoured Fish oils which we add into a yoghurt or fruit puree so he cant taste it either! If you need any more info plse pm me! Cheers Nikki
