justamom Report post Posted April 15, 2006 K has been given a new medicine for his arthritis and they did warn us about the side effects it a very potent drug used for cancers and rheumatoid arthritis, but like all meds they have side effect. He has to have 3tablets on a friday, the first week he was asleep by 7 woke up later all hot and "feeling funny" and again last night he was very ill, temp ect. I took the kids swimming yesterday so when he complained that his eyes were sore i thought it was because of the clorine in the pool. Wanted to put drops in but he refused because he hates them. That was at 5.30, his eyes did not really settle down and they were red for a long time at about 1.00 last night he woke up saying his face felt like it was "popping" and hot. I was not sure what he meant by popping but it must have been itchy or burning. I put a flannel on his face but it did not really help neither did the ice pack.... So after a while i gave him a anti histermine to stop the reaction. With it being Easter and all i could not get to speak to anyone, so i went to see the Pharmacist and explained to him what was happening... (also said he has AS and cant really explain how he feels). He asked if his back has been sore lately, yeah very and i just assumed it was because of his sacrolits (part of the arthritis). He said it could be his kidneys and he needs to be seen by the rheumatologist again to re-acess his meds. I have decided that he is not having this medicine again, this is the 2nd time that he has reacted to this medicine and they have not listened to me so no more.... They are going to have to do something else i cant risk it he was so ill... Justamom
Guest hallyscomet Report post Posted April 17, 2006 Just sending you some of these <'> <'> <'> keep persisting with the GP till you get some answers and alternatives. I have heard a few other mums talk about problems like this, maybe they are away for Easter, hopefully someone may have some advice soon, something that may have helped them. Or perhaps do some searching on the internet, just type in google to diagnosis and heaps of stuff appears usually those that come to the top of the list are the better recommended sites. Good luck, hope you little one is feeling much better soon. I have Osteoarthritis and know how painful it can be, I take Glucosamine with Condroitin, but for a child I imagine things would be different. Perhaps ask your GP to refer you to a Paediatrician, they have done much more study than GP's and more hands on help to specialists, for kids. <'> Hailey
