Baddad that was Roy Harper 'When an old cricker leaves the crease'

And all remains, in the groundsman's pains,

For the rest of time and a day.

There'll be one mad dog and his master, pushing for 4 with the spin.

On a dusty pitch, with two pounds six, of willowwood in the sun.

When an old cricketer leaves the crease, you never know whether he's gone,

If maybe you're catching a fleeting glimpse, of a twelfth man at silly mid-on.

And it could be Geoff, and it could be John,

With a new ball sting in his tail.

And it could be me, and it could be thee,

And it could be the sting in the ale.........sting in the ale.

Now, Hailey, Did you know it, or google it??!!:lol::lol:

An old one, but absolutely lovely... the brass arrangement is more emotive than ANY hovis advert!!

L&P

BD.

PS: Don't know yours, but there was one up briefly yesterday I thought might have been 'Men at Work' given the aussie connection...

Hi Baddad

I have to admit I remember the words but had to get some help with his name.

My family were cricket mad back then I think we must have had every cricket and footie song ever released  you end up learning by rote as you here them so much, cricket and footie songs were top of the list for my brother and his friends, he used to dance around the house to some of them :lol: or down the backyard, my brother was a nutter. Typical aussie

BD,

I'm not a tiddler, wish I was. I remember the Roy Harper song from about '79, '80 so it must have been an old song by then! I had it on a casette recording of a radio program from Metro Radio - Friday night was rock night.

SV

Heres Hailey's lyrics again if anyone wants to have a guess

Don't know if the title is "That's what friends are for", but it's one of the lines.

Was it Dionne Warwick the singer?

here are the lyrics:

And I never thought I'd feel this way

And as far as I'm concerned

I'm glad I got the chance to say

That I do believe I love you

And if I should ever go away

Well then close your eyes and try

To feel the way we do today

And then if you can remember

Keep smiling, keep shining

Knowing you can always count on me, for sure

That's what friends are for

For good times and bad times

I'll be on your side forever more

That's what friends are for

Well you came in loving me

And now there's so much more I see

And so by the way I thank you

Oh and then for the times when we're apart

Well then close your eyes and know

The words are coming from my heart

And then if you can remember

I confess I googled and found out. I think the reason everone is struggling is that it isn't a well known song here in the UK (I can't remember it at all). It maybe it was popular and it passed me by, but I don't think so. It was sung on American Idol but that show has never been very popular in the UK.

OK, here's one that everyone knows, sung by a lady with a powerful voice:

Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you

That is how I know you go on.

Far across the distance and spaces between us

You have come to show you go on.

Near, far, wherever you are .......

Did your world collapse one day

Nothing left to give away

Spending hours on the phone

Don`t hang up I`m on my own

I can`t face it when you go

BD I think I've found it ;) I went on a site and this is what one of the members said about the song

Really, it's a very obscure song...and only a select smattering of people would really know about it!

You are obviously one of the select smattering.

I won't put the answer because I cheated and someone else might actually know it

I'm off to dig up my Cocteau twins albums if we're doing obscure lyrics

I'm off to dig up my Cocteau twins albums if we're doing obscure lyrics

It's not that obscure!

More lyrics then...

"You know who I am" he said

The speaker was an angel

He coughed and shook his crumpled wings

Closed his eyes and moved his lips

"It's time I should be going'

Waiting so long, I've been waiting so, waiting so long....

Some more lyrics from the same album...

Wonder how the dollar went down

Gotta get a word to Elizabeth's father

Hey Ho he wished me well

Seemed like another day i could fly

Into the eye of God on high...

OR...

I'm home, lost my job

And incurably ill

You think this is easy

Realism

I've got a girl out there

I suppose

I think she's dancing

Feel like Dan Dare lies down

I think she's dancing

What do i know?

BIG BIG ARTIST. My fave album by him. Mostly hated by everyone else who likes him!

BD (who, as you may have guessed, resorted to the sleeve notes!):lol:

Well it seems a bit David Bowie -ish but I can,t think of the tracks??..............and listen matey Mr. Obscure you should really only post up tracks that made into the top 40 so numb skulls like me have a little iddy biddy chance of guessing a right answer  .

It,s a god awful small affair

To the girl with the mousey hair

But her mummy is yelling no

and her daddy has told her to go

and her friend is no where to be seen .......................................

Thanks Suze, I can answer yours

David Bowie - Life on Mars

As for Baddad, I think young American is in there somewhere and the original song that he mentions with the lines 'Waiting so long, I've been waiting so long' are gonna drive me mad cos I know it, i know i know it.

Anyway lets just bypass those obscurish lyrics. Heres an easy one

How they dance in the courtyard

Sweet summer sweat

Some dance to remember

Some dance to forget

Is that 'mothers of the lost' or whatever it is by stink?

Sorry SV - The album was 'Lodger'... 'waiting so long/speaker was an angel' is 'Look back in anger'... Then there's a bit of 'African nightflight' and the last track was 'I am a DJ ( I am what I play)'... Life just kissed you 'hello' when you're a boy!!:lol::lol:

Think I'm probably gonna dig out my CD of it tomorrow....

YES EASY PEASY,

Its PINK FLOYD...................but I've forgotten the name of the song, it was the last song on the album and the album had a brilliant line drawing cover. My brother was pretty annoyed when I coloured the picture in.

The next verse: -

I know a room of musical tunes'

Some chime some ching most of them are clockwork,

Let's go into the other room and make em work.

Then lots of wierd mechanical noises that i cant spell.

Oh and there's a verse about a bike.

The album also had Julia Dream, Arnold Lane and a really dreamy track about pillars of something.

Maybe the album was called Pink Floyd, and the track might have been called Bicycle or maybe just Bike.

Heres another easy one.........

I'll move myself and my family aside

If we happen to be left half alive

I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky

For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

We'll be fighting in the streets

With our children at our feet

And the morals that they worship will be gone

And the men who spurred us on

Sit in judgement of all wrong

They decide and the shotgun sings the song

...and I think the Pink Floyd song started "I've got a bike you can ride it if you like" and was called (surprisingly enough) "Bike". It was on the Relics album but may have been on another one as well.

How about guessing these......

Easy peasy for you ageing hippies out there:

Oh, the snot has caked against my pants

It has turned into crystal

There's a bluebird sitting on a branch

I guess I'll take my pistol

I've got it in my hand

Because he's on my land

And so the story ended

Do you know it oh so well

Well should you need I'll tell you

The end-end-end-end-end-end-end-end

And...
